abolition of Slavery in the District of Columbia
this measure, if it was adopted by a large
number of towns in the U.S. he thought
would be gaining a very important step
towards the great work, as the district
was the property of the U.S. & entirely
under the jurisdiction of the Natrond
Legistature. Both male & female were
invited to attend the meetings; at the last
meeting there were about 100 females

7th The crop of hay this year on the Island, is
abundant, the season has been remarkably
good for upland grass.- The low lands are
not better than common.

19.7. The old mill, known in this day by
the name of the Benjn Whippy Mill, which stood to
the wester most on the Mill hills, was this
day taken down & demolished. ~ It was built
by Richard Macy Senior in the year - 1729
and was the first that was built on Nantucket
of that discription, It was erected on the hill
to the north west of Richard Macy's house, in upper
town. - there it stood many years, it was then
removed, & placed on Academy Hill, & afterwards
removed to the place of final destination, and
fitted with dowels-, instead of nails, hence the
boys called it the spider legged Mill -
