State of Ohio County of Greene SS:
In the matter of pension of Ary Smith widow of Jackson Smith late of "C" 100 U.S.C.T. #261732
ON THIS 2nd day of June A.D. 1887, personally appeared before me Clerk of Court in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths, Preston Mosby aged 40 years, a resident of Xenia in the County of Greene and State of Ohio whose Post Office address is Xenia Ohio
well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
I was well acquainted with said Jackson Smith knew him well from the time he came to Xenia Ohio after his discharge until his death in Spring of 1874, I lived near him next door and was with him a great deal. I think he came here in 1866. I know it was just after his discharge at the time he came here and I got acquainted with him he was in poor health had bad cough complained of soreness in his breast and lungs, poor in flesh and weak I worked with him some and knew he complained of breast hurting him and of shortness of breath. He gradually grew worse with the disease until he died. He was confined to the house all the fall of 1873 and winter of 1874 and died in Spring of 1874 I visited him a great deal during his last sickness. He died of consumption Dr. C. B. Jones then of Xenia O attended him. I was with the soldier a short time before he died and at his funeral. I have known Ary Smith his widow ever since 1871. I knew that said aoldier and Ary Smith lived here in Xenia O, as man and wife and were so recognized up to his death and that she is still his widow not having remarried since his death. Dr. C. B. Jones that attended said soldier is away in Mexico I know personally that he treated said soldier in his last sickness. I further declare that I have no interest in said case and am not conerned in its prosecution. I am not related to said claimant. Preston Mosby (Signature of Affiants)
