spit-up a good deal that was his general condition from his discharge until he died. At his enlistment he was about 23 to 25 years old when he enlisted can't give his age exact. He was a farmer & done general farm work before he enlisted, he was about 5 ft 7 or 8 inches height, never saw him measured that I rcollect of He would be called dark brown Jackson Smith aforesaid a short time before he enlisted had been sold to Jack or John Smith. I knew that said Jackson Smith and Ary Smith this claimant live and cohabited here in Xenia, O After the war until he died that they did not have any children, That said Jackson Smith never married any other person and did not cohabit with any other person as his wife before he enlisted, or after the war. I knew that said Ary Smith has never remarried since the death of said Jackson Smith, and she has not lived and cohabited with any other man since his death. GENERAL AFFIDAVIT

State of Ohio County of Greene

In the matter of Pension of Ary Smith widow of Jackson Smith late of Co #261732

ON THIS 2nd day of June A.D. 1887 personally appeared before me Clerk of Court in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths, Arthur Jackson age 45 years, a resident of Xenia in the County of Greene and State 0f Ohio whose Post Office address is Xenia, Ohio

well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows:

I was well acquainted with said Jackson Smith late husband of said Ary Smith I knew him well from the time he came to Xenia O, soon after his discharge about 1866. I lived near him while he lived here in Xenia, I was with said Smith a great deal during his last sickness during the fall winter Spring of 1874. That is he was taken down in fall of 1873, and died in Spring of 1874. I was with him almost every day during that time. He died of consumption. Dr. C. B. Jones then of Xenia O was his doctor. I helped lay the soldier out after he died, was with him just before he died. I know said soldier suffered with lung disease all the time after he came to Xenia until he died, gradually grew worse with it. When said soldier came to Xenia O. he was poor in flesh, weak and had a bad cough, complained of soreness in breast. Soon after said Smith came here to Xenia I worked with him some, and know he was very weak and apparently very short in his breath, give out easily. Said Jackson Smith and Ary Smith lived here in Xenia, O as man and wife and were so recognized up to his death She has not remarried since his death. I further declare that I have no interest in said case and am not concerned in its prosecution.
