Dec 8 [date underlined] Rain, mud, mud! Occupied most of the day in making preparations for the presentation at Court. Evening a call from Mr. Fraser but Matilda being sick of La Grippe was compelled to deny her help.
Dec. 9 [date underlined] = One everlasting cloud like a Pall still overcasts the heavens. -- occupied as yesterday with court dress. Received per Washington letters from Edwin and Mrs. Addams rogether with Tariff and some newspapers. Evening home.
