Dearest Mother,

Well, it looks like the army has done it again. Looks
like they just don't want me to come home, doesn't it? To
most of us over here the army is fast becoming an organiza-
tion of lies, false promises and in general just no damn
good. I'm so disgusted that I've become nothing more than
an ornament around here, I eat, sleep and do little or no
work at all. What amazes me most is the fact that I'm get-
ing away with it!!! Still hoping, somehow, someway, some-
body will find an outlet and that I'll be on my way home in
February. But I'm quite sure if somebody other than the
Army doesn't step in and see that something is done, I'll
be hoping to no avail. They tell us that no replacements
are coming over from the states, but they don't tell us why.
They don't tell us why soldiers with anywhere from 4 to 26
points are being discharged in the states because, as they
put it, they are "non-essential". What's the matter with
all the 18 and 19 year old boys over here now, but we aren't
fools enough to believe all the available ones are over
here. They didn't even stop to think twice when they threw
the young ones on the beaches of Normandy, Africa and Italy,
into the very jaws of death itself, why ponder over sending
them over here now? It's quite safe. In my opinion every
available man in the states who hasn't seen any overseas
service should be required to "do his time"! If the Army
was anywhere near democratic all this new "redeployment
mess up" would never have happened. But it did and myself
and thousands like me are having to give more of those
precious months away from our loved ones. But what can we
do? Our joined "I Wanna Go Home" 's are drowned under with
excuses and promises. Excuses and promises that we're to
smart to believe , so we just sit and listen to what our
"Army Papa" says is best for us. I'm still sitting, but
how much longer? They say Mid-April!! Almost makes me
wonder if America is all she's stacked up to be!!!!!

Enough of my gripes, don't know why I'm worrying you
with them anyway. Well, unless it's because we don't feel
everything is being done that could be done in the states
to get us home. If some of those politicians back home
who are depending on our votes ^(in) the coming years got wise
to themselves they'd so something!
