2 yet and one of them was addressed to Camp Servier and the other to Camp Merritt they came about a week after we landed and since that I have been living on the hope ^(To a. 1B-Way Bon. American EF) that the ^(others) were delayed but the weeks continue to pass and still no letters from you, why is it I wonder I've got your picture here before me now and it sure gives me the blues when I think of the times I

looked into your face instead of your picture. They are both splendid and the one smiling is just like you of course they are both like you but you smile more than you look serious But as I said before they are both splendid and I love them lots and the original more than I can tell her in a thousand letters.

4 seven oclock in the evening and our aeroplanes are busy overhead on patrol In the distance about 5 miles I can see the German anti-aircraft guns shelling some of our planes. you can see the shells explode [begin crossed out] and [end crossed out] below the planes but so far they have failed to hit any of them. Sure wish I was in the aviation sometimes but if I can get to turn my M.G. in a mass of advanceing huns. I will be satisfied

[5] and I guess I will get that chance as I am the no. 1 man as in other words the gunners in the Gun squad I am in, its a bit risky for if we should happen to have to retreat the machine gunners have to[illegible] up their barrage fire until everbody else has took up their new position in the rear, but if you understand your gun you have a friend that will stand by you and nothing but a shell will put you out of action, have not been up ^([the line]) yet, [crossed out word] but can hear
