Logbook of a whaling voyage to the Atlantic. Includes descriptions of types of whales seen or taken, accidents, a death at sea, illnesses, shipboard medicine, desertions, and punishments. Also contains whale stamps and a diary following the voyage logbook written by Captain Chace's daughter, Marion Almy Chase. The vessel began leaking on November 14, 1914. The First Mate gave up the logbook and shipped home on 1 February 1914, and the Captain took over logbook duties. Several men got into a fight resulting in some arrests while on shore on February 24, 1915. One man was stabbed and wounded during a fight on July 10, 1915. The captain administered several medical treatments for venereal diseases in July 1915. One man was drunk and put in irons on October 2, 1915. One man died on November 15, 1915. One man was stabbed in the face with a pike on January 29, 1916. One man was punished after getting into a fight on June 5, 1916. One man was treated for syphilis on June 28, 1916. This day comes in with strong E wind a 6 am took in upper topsails & at 8 am took in lower topsails & foresail coming in rain & squally. clearing of rain & blowing strong with heavy swell from W. wore to on starboard tack at 1.30 p.m. wore ship & set lower topsails jib & main topmast stay sail. kept N x E by compass. at night [-] a squally & [heavy sea running?] took in foretopsail jib & m.t.staysail & hove too on starboard tack So ends another day.

P.M. moderating somewhat big swell on. set spanker. U.M. & at 4-30 P.M. set main topmast staysail. 6 P.M. C. Payne complained that Sylvester Monteiro had assaulted him. inquired into case & found that monteiro was agressor & warned him to not interfere. inclined to be overbearing on account majority of Cape De Verdes in crew. [End of entry symbols] 25th. Mod gale from W. rain squalls passing over all day. saw one steamer. A.M. bent an old repaired lower topsail in place of torn lower fore topsail. stowed yams from boats on the house to lower hold (too much weight on house.) So ends another day. Strong N.W. with three passing squalls of light rain. last one having heavy wind in it. saw one steamer, light & steering to the W. watch employed at odd jobs. ripped off patches from torn lower topsail & condemned it.
