Logbook of a whaling voyage to the Atlantic. Includes descriptions of types of whales seen or taken, accidents, a death at sea, illnesses, shipboard medicine, desertions, and punishments. Also contains whale stamps and a diary following the voyage logbook written by Captain Chace's daughter, Marion Almy Chase. The vessel began leaking on November 14, 1914. The First Mate gave up the logbook and shipped home on 1 February 1914, and the Captain took over logbook duties. Several men got into a fight resulting in some arrests while on shore on February 24, 1915. One man was stabbed and wounded during a fight on July 10, 1915. The captain administered several medical treatments for venereal diseases in July 1915. One man was drunk and put in irons on October 2, 1915. One man died on November 15, 1915. One man was stabbed in the face with a pike on January 29, 1916. One man was punished after getting into a fight on June 5, 1916. One man was treated for syphilis on June 28, 1916. Mon Jan 11th this day Comes in With fine Weather at 7.12 Since leaving home there nothing by trouble With this Crew at Saint Vincent twice We Broke out this Ship on there account and Boath times Part of Crew lofeing ashore Coming across from Saint Vincent done little as posible on our araible here poleace Officer Comes to see if annay of the Crew has had trouble With the Officers not asking if they done there douty jest this morning they asked turn to they refused Counsel Came off and told they must turn to and Went on shore gave up Duty as Officer and have seen all I Want to see off ever making annay thing on a voyage of this kind. Tues Jan 12th this day Comes in With moar of it all forward Refuse duty finely Capt Chace got them to turn to on Promis of Dairy days Wages Witch they except and started in Brek out and light her up discharging Ballast and pumping Water away 5.15 Closed hatches for the night Well if a man as got to go Whaling to be hired it is time to give up [Written vertically in margin by the Captain] Did not provide day wages but did agree to advance the crew certain moneys. 24 Remarks on Board andrew Hicks Mon Jan 18th this day Comes in Local Shoowers Crew Emp Braking out fore and after hold 12 pm sent two lighters ashore one of Wood one Provisions later Part tacking Coal out of Coal Pen pumping Since Coming here Every 12 hours Ship leaking 1 inck Per hour at 5 pm Caught one Boy on Deck as at meal times they flock here to get something to eat and have been Warned not to Come Called Police Boat they gave him a Skair and let him go so ends this day

Tues Jan 19th this day Comes in With fine Weather at 6 45 am tow Boat Came off hove up anchor and Went to the dock Crew emp light up the Ship sent down gallant yards landed Boats all provisions at pm pumped Ship taking 18 minuts so ends this day

Wed Jan 20th this day Comes in With fine Weather Crew Emp first part of day discharging Ballast finished at 11.am Ship ready to go on the dry dock this pm one Steamner Came in from New York so ends this day
