Sept. 7th ...pumped one cask oil (378 gal.) from tank into between decks to make room for hot oil filled tank again. Lat. N. 33º-46’ Lon W. 65º-29’ 8th ...passed a whistling buoy this P.M…34-25 65-57 11th ...took lines & guns out of boats. put tarpaulins on hatches & battened down...wind increasing...at 9-30. lost bow boat at 2 P.M….[furled many sails] ship running easy under lower topsails & fore sail...34-41 68-52 (8 AM)

Sept 12, 1916 very high seas...C. Seely off duty swelled jaw. Lat. N. 35º-32’ Lon. W 72º-14’ 13th ...at 8 AM raised scattered whales...got one...saw more whales after dinner & got another on deck at 4-45. Seely off duty also AM Soares & J. Antones 36-32 73 15

Sept. 15th ...finished boiling at 2 A.M. tore down try works. took up balance of sheathing (deck) took in stage sent down cutting gear & wash off ship...at 7 PM wind went to N.W. with rain thunder & lightning...signalled a steamer “Bristol” to report us all well. C. Seely, J. Antones & AM Soares off duty N 38-50 W 73-29 17th ...42 fathoms at 4 P.M. saw number of stmre (six)...caught a cowfish & albicore. AM Soares on duty 40-13 71-24

Sept 18th ...lowered a boat & caught 6 edible fish cousins to codfish? rather flat tasting. Caught four from ship...1 pm 37 fathoms Lat N 40º-30’ Lon W. 71º-44’ 19th ...saw Montaug light at 10-30 last night from a loft & at 1 am saw Block Island S.E. light kept N.E. was steering NNE compass course...got up cables & bent to anchors after 4 PM. Saw Gay Head light from aloft at 6-30 PM bearing NXE½E 41-00 70-40 20th ..took pilot form Cuttyhunk to windward of Sow & Pigs lightship [designated #73 by the US Coast Guard] anchored at quarantine grounds at 4 P.M. took tug & towed to wharf where we arrived 5-30 PM. So ends this voyage.
