1918 Day Diary of C.A. Chaces Farm

Nov 1st This month came in with a perfect day.
Friday [With?] the first day [of?] November, the corn
is all husked excepted three shocks.
Beans all thrashed out and [-]
burnt up. Mother is down in Horseneck
with Kate Talliman. Emily is house
keeper. I have been to market with egg
and vegetables. Mrs Sterrab presented me
with a lovely plaid skirt. Went [to?]
Grange meeting with Emily at home to
keep house. [Mr.?] McCutcheon spent
evening with Emily and kids. So ends
this perfect day. 14 pullet eggs
Nov. 2nd Another perfect day, did all the
Saturday regular work with the hens. We now
clean hen houses every morning. Drew
water from brook for hens.
Mr.(?) Smith had Rueben this forenoon.
Brought the heifer home from Posinacks
pasture and she is a bouncer.
So ends this day with 12 pullet eggs.
Nov. 3rd Another perfect day. Emily & children
Sunday went back to N.B. after being here
five weeks. Maurice & Bob were out to dinner.
Mother is down to Horseneck with Katie.
Did chores and after reading a while
retired. So ends this glorious day 17 pullet eggs.
Nov. 4th Today very unsettled, went to town with
Monday three barrells [of?] apples for Sam and
carried home Emilys things. Abbie went
in town with me. Today we got 18 pullet
eggs So ends this day.
Nov. 5th Today I sorted apples and did regular
Tues. chores, used up all the hay in our barn
am bringing it up from Grandmas
in bags. Stuart went thru the hole in

NOTES
Line 7: "Mother" is Rachel Almy (Tripp) Chace, who sailed with Charlie several times, signing on as Assistant Navigator, and later doing portions of voyages with the children.
Line 8: Assume that "Emily" is Marion's married sister, Emily Brightman.
Line 6: Charles Maurice was Marion's older brother; rarely heard from and would later disown himself from the family. Marion's younger brother, Albert died at sea from being struck by a boom. Do not know Bob.
Sam Brightman is Emily's husband. Emily is Marion's older sister.
Line 38: William Stuart Chace, here at age 11, is this transcriber's father.
