Welcome to the Maryland State Archives marriage certificate transcription project. Maryland State Archives requires the Soundex codes on completed transcriptions. The Soundex codes can be found handwritten in the blank space of the upper left hand corner for the groom, and the upper right hand corner for the bride. If you are unfamiliar with the code it is a letter followed by three digits. A webpage that describes it fully is here. The webpage can also generate one for a surname you enter.
