should go too, we were just makin gour preparations, when good sister Emmie made her appearance all ready to carry me home with her - This brightened me up wonderfully, and I am afraid that I showed my pleasure too visibly to be very flattering to the Osgoods, but I had felt a little grain hurt at Emmies not coming after me, and she had felt a little grain hurt at the scarcity of my letters - two of them not having arrived - so when we found that we were both of us all right - it was quite natural that we should feel somewhat pleased. Abbie concluded to come over here with us, so as she had to assist the aunts in some shopping, she came first with them, and Emmie and I followed in the chaise to meet her at George's store - We were too early, so we drove to the stable, then went to Mrs Copeland's for an ice-cream, and even then had to wait for her sometime - On our way here we called at Clara Keye's, and found [hea?] much better than we expected - she think that mother's life of man root has done her a great deal of good.

It was nearly noon when we arrived here, and the people seemed quite pleased to see us - Uncle appears much brighter than he did when we went away - After dinner the three aunts came

to spend the last afternoon that they can for a long time with their brother -

They were obliged to take tea, and hurry off very early, on account of the cars, but Abbie stayed and spent the night with me. This morning we thought of going to Cushing's gardens, but as Abbie was in a hurry concluded to defer it, and had a very pleasant ride, Neptune accompanying us, and then took Abbie to the depot, Emmie and I having engaged to dine at Roxbury tomorrow -

I have written a little note to Sylvinia Smith, one to Hannah, and a letter to father and mother telling them that this fall if I cannot do better, I shall apply for one of the public schools in Bangor -

I knew that Henry and Emmie were to go to ride tonight, but was a little surprised when they asked me to go too, as I was never on a horse in my life - However, I was not slow to accept the invitation, Emmie borrowed a dress for me, and shortly after tea, I found myself for the first time on a horse's back. I did not ride far, but guess that I did as well as could be expected - Walking the horse I liked much, but when it came to [t?] I was a little frightened, and twice could not repress a rather

distressed Henry. I rode not over half an hour and then came home, and left them to ride farther without me. I hope they will want me to try again, for if I should get a little used to it, I should like it, I know.

Friday, June 25. Maggie called me this morning, and I got up quite early, before either Henry or Emmie. Spent a little time in arranging my letters to send home, and then Emmie and I dressed and went into Boston, in the quarter before ten cars. Mr Potter was in the cars, and was as usual quite social. From the cars we took an Omnibus, and went to Roxbury where we found them quite happy to see us. Aunt Woodman was there, and she expected Abbie Stacy, but she did'nt come, and on account of her not coming and of Aunt Hadlock's departure, Aunt W felt considerably blue. However we had a very pleasant day, and about three oclock set out in a body for Boston - There was some shopping to be attended to, aunt Hadlock buying herself a new dress &c, and then we separated at George's store; the three travellers to go to the depot, Sarah Osgood, Emmie and I to go in another direction - Emmie wished to do some shopping, so we visited several stores then

went to [F?] Hall, to see the greate picture of Webster replying to Haynes. It is a splendid picture containing between one and two hundred figures, and all of them portraits -

After having there we made the best of our way to the depot, and watched for Henry, who shortly made his appearance. Aunt Sarah had a nice supper ready for us, and we had nice appetites for it. Tomorrow Henry and Emmie are going to Andover to pass the Sabbath, and Aunt Sarah is going out Monday morning to spend the day, leaving Uncle Woodman and I to keep house. They seem to be some afraid, that it is'nt altogether polite to leave me, and would not go if the engagement was not one of long standing, but I am glad that they are going, and think I have just the best brother and sister in the world. Now I am tired enough to go to bed.

Saturday, June 26. Got up in good season again this morning and soon after breakfast sat down to line and trim Maggie's bonnet for her, first having climbed the cherry-tree with Emmie, where alas! we found little to reward us for our exertions. Emmie and I rode out a very little ways, as she wished to go to the dress-makers, but did

not prolong our ride lest Prince should be too weary for his journey. Henry was to come home to dinner, so we waited for him until three oclock, but then he felt so unwell that he could eat nothing but a little toast.

He brought home a letter from Father and Mary which contains most dreadful news. Poor Thomas Liscomb has killed himself It was in his present case but little comfort to his friends to see him live, and they felt certain that he was prepared to die, but for him to die so, it seems as if it must be more than they can bear. - - -

Mary says that my little bird Nina is dead, and [Sonie?] probably will die - Dear little things that I have loved and tended so long - I shall miss them sadly when I go home.

Uncle Woodman came to stay with us, and at half past four Henry and Emmie set out for Andover. After they were gone I finished reading "The Orphan Niece" - went out and bought a piece of lace, and fixed the lower part of the sleeves that Edward gave me, so that I can wear them tomorrow, and finally have read fifty lines of Virgil in review - Emmie has given me her beautiful Cameo-pin - what an open hearted girl she is.
