favorite resort, how much of his play time
was spent in prayer either alone or with some
of his young companions who like him found
their greatest pleasure in communion with God.
We remember how often he would take one of
the thoughtless ones aside to speak to him of
his soul, how he would go out early Sunday
morning to put tracts in the hands of the
sailors in the street hoping thereby to fix the
arrow of conviction in some soul, which could
be reached in no other way - we remember,
too, how as years passed on, and he left his
carefully guarded home to make his way in
the world, when in a distant place, exposed to the
temptations of a city - he was gradually led
astray, until he forsook the table of the Lord, in
part forsook his house, and now we fear, is
living without God, and without hope in the world.
Yet we would not from this prophesy evil to
the young Christians who today for the first time
have united with us in commemorating the
Lord's death - rather would we believe that soon,
very soon, the pleasure-loving young-man shall be
brought back to the same spirit that actuated
the Christian boy, that he shall again take his
stand on the Lord's side, no more to slide back into
sin, never again to fall away. If those who at the
