Mr. J.W. Lovering, Supt., Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 5 Tremont St., City.
Dear Sir: --
The writer for some years has been Secretary of the Melrose Town Improvement Society, and desires to ascertain what is considered the best material for fertilizing lawn grass. Will you kindly inform me in enclosed stamped envelope, if you use commercial fertilizers or stable manure for fertilizing the lawn grass in your cemeteries.
If the former, will you kindly inform me whose fertilizer you consider the best for this purpose. This is a matter of personal interest to me, and is not intended for publication or any other use, and of course would not be otherwise used without your permission.
Very truly yours,
F.P. Shumway, Jr.
Dictated by F.P.S., Jr.
Dear Sir
Wood ashes are used here to a considerable extent and ^also^ [Bowkers?] lawn dressing, [area?] have proven more satisfactory than manure.
