to the Committee on Grounds,
and they again to a Sub-Committee
consisting of yourself and me.

The thing may be settled at once
if you will notify me of an
early time at which you will
meet me at my house in Mnt.
Vernon St. when I will explain
anything you may require.

I am deeply grateful to the
Trustees and to their Committeee
for the kindness as well as
promptitude with which they
have cooperated in forwarding
this enterprise, but I am un-
changed in my belief that in a
monument professing to commem-
orate the patriotism of citizens
and the valor of their troops,
the conspicious front should
not be occupied by a name
which might seem to express

the ostentation, rather
than the gratitude of the
donor.

very respectfully
Yrs.
