Trustees' Report

who have already purchased lots anticipating the desirability
of the position when the plan shall have been fully carried out.

An iron fence has been erected on the front of the
Watriss lot, and a portion of the old fence raised to connect
therewith, while the sidewalk has been filled and graded;
a portion of the expense of the latter item having been paid
by the town of Belmont.

The roadway in front of the gate of the Cemetery has
been paved at the joint expense of the City of Cambridge, the
Horse Railroad Company and the Corporation.

In order to accomplish these special improvements,
together with others of less importance which will be found enu-
merated in the report of the Treasurer, the Trustees have drawn
upon the available funds of the Corporation, believing the expen-
ditures to be investments more certain to yield an abundant
return hereafter than any of the funds that have been thus
converted. The Permanent Fund for the future support
and preservation of the Cemetery has been increased by the
deposit of $6.790.25, and with the accrued income for the
year now amounts to $129.479.04. The Repair Fund is now
$80.134.87, and the estimated available assets of $23.334.42
exclusive of real estate owned by the Corporation outside of
the Cemetery. By an irrevocable By=Law it is not lawful
for the Trustees to appropriate any portion of the principal
or income of the Permanent Fund for the uses of the Cemetery,
until said Fund shall have amounted to the sum of one
hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

Realizing the necessity of a larger Fund in consequence
