Whereas, the Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn,
at the annual meeting, on the , requested this Board
to prepare and report to them, at an adjourned meeting on the , an amendment relating to the election of Trustees, and
any other amendments to the act of incorporation which they
might think necessary and proper; it is

Voted. That the following brief historical statement by the President
be submitted to the Proprietors, and the following amend-
atory act, in five sections, be reported, for their action
thereon:

The land of Mount Auburn Cemetery was purchased and
dedicated to its present use in the year. It was, by several years, the first establishment
of the kind in the United States, it has since been imitated,
at various times, by nearly all our prominent cities. Since
the year , its affairs have
been managed by a Board of Trustees varying from seven
to twelve in number, elected annually by the proprietors, and
which, for the last twelve years, has been kept to the maximum
number fixed by the charter.

During a period of nearly forty years, the institution and
its property have thus been managed successfully and safely.
The Cemetery and its funds have been protected, and have yearly
increased, and no imputation of neglect or dishonor has fallen
upon any Trustee. Several attempts, however, have, at
