Line that reads "sales for [contra?]"
Could the word in question be contract (or an abbreviation thereof) consistent with their contract with M.H.S. for 1/4 of the proceeds?
Also, line that reads : " [sales] balance transferred to [?] a/c
I think the ditto mark is for the word "for" and not "sales".
Any comments.
I think the line actually might read "sales per contra"
Contra per the OED online
1. The contrary or opposite; in Book-keeping, the opposite side or column of an account; esp. the right-hand or credit side, in which the liabilities of the trader appear. Also transferred. per contra, Italian ‘over against, against, opposite’ (Florio), is commonly used in the sense ‘on the opposite side of the account, on the other hand, as a set-off’. See per prep.
