Josiah Foster Flagg (1788-1853) is dentist and son of the first American born dentist, Josiah Flagg, Jr. (1763-1816). He is noted to have studied medicine with Dr. John Collins Warren and played an active role in the introduction of ether anesthesia in Boston in the 1840's.
In addition to dentistry, Flagg worked as medical illustrator. He contributed plate illustrations to Warren's revised edition of Albrecht von Haller's Anatomical Description of the Arteries of the Human Body, as well as Warren's own A Comparative View of the Sensorial and Nervous Systems in Men and Animals.
Not to be confused with his father Josiah Flagg Jr (1763-1816), his brother John Foster Brewster Flagg (1804-1872), or his nephew Josiah Foster Flagg ("Foster Flagg," 1828-1903).
