Description

(February 25, 1782 – October 21, 1863) Captian William F. Sturgis was a Boston merchant in the China trade, California hide trade, and maritime fur trade. He was one of the attendees at Dr. Jacob Bigelow’s initial meeting about the Mount Auburn Cemetery, November 1825.

Sturgis was a member of the Massachusetts Historical Society, a subscriber to the Story Statue, and a funder for the Spurzheim monument. Buried in Lot 310.
