placed in his hands. I have proposed during
this summer to begin the full-sized model & to de-
vote all my time exclusively to it -but I fear tht
I shall not be able to satisfy the Trustees, and
I am concerned that if my views do not coincide
with theirs, it would be better for them to cancel
their contract with me & to place the work in
more expeditious and able hands. I shall none the
less propose to go on with my statue & complete
it to the best of abilities - for myself or for
some other purpose. I have already spent too much
time & thought upon it to be willing that it should
end where it is.

At the same time, while I fully em-
power the Trustees to cancel the contract. I would say
in conclusion, that if they are willing to permit me
to proceed with the understanding that I shall
exert myself to the best of my ability & as speedily
as I can to the completion of this statue, I shall
do so with great pleasure.

I have the honor to be Gentlemen
Your obedt servant
W. W. Story
