Dear Sir. As winter is approaching and I do not often leave my house, I am anxious that my few remaining concerns with the Proprietors of Mnt. Auburn Cemetery should be duly settled-. I have desired the Secretary to draw a release to the Proprietors of Mnt Auburn of all my right and interest. in the Sphinx Monument at that place, of which I may still claim to be proprietor, never having yet signed or executed any transfer. If I recollect matters rightly, the Trustees referred the business

to the Committee on Grounds, and they again to a Sub-Committee consisting of yourself and me.

The thing may be settled at once if you will notify me of an early time at which you will meet me at my house in Mnt. Vernon St. when I will explain anything you may require.

I am deeply grateful to the Trustees and to their Committeee for the kindness as well as promptitude with which they have cooperated in forwarding this enterprise, but I am unchanged in my belief that in a monument professing to commemorate the patriotism of citizens and the valor of their troops, the conspicious front should not be occupied by a name which might seem to express

the ostentation, rather than the gratitude of the donor.
