Patience sent the following beautiful poem to Mr. Hermann
Behr, who is still very ill.

TO MINE KNIGHT.

That labor which be mine, beloved,
Surely thou kennest as thine own,
For thou hast shown the way.
Better to have labored so than knelt to pray.
Thine is a simple way.
I can but say within the very soul o' me
"Thank God for thee!"
A knight in armor bright who bore
The banners through the night
Knowing the goal within his soul
That others might not see without the light.
Thine is a glorious fight!
Well won the laurels 'pon thy brow!
E'en now the turrets thou hast set foundation to
Reach toward the sky.
Who my beloved one, kens better than do I
The Why?
Thou art the living symbol bidding us to ply
Our footsteps up the vasty steep
And keep our faith.
What fuller harvest couldst thou reap?
I, but wraith, found flesh in thee.
Yea, my beloved, resurrected in the love
Thou'st given me.
And I am e'er beside thee, bended that I tend,
As thou hast been beside me, eager that ye fend.
Thou art a King!
Love is thy throne.
With such an kingdom, oh, my most beloved,
How mayest thou e'er be lone?
