Beloved day, beloved day, I forget
The tedious pathway and the stoned
Up-glades and the briared meadows.
I forget that my feet are weary
And my hands ache of labor. I forget
That my lips have smiled until
Smiling is a worn toy, that mine eyes
Have wept till seeing is confusion.

Beloved day, beloved day, beloved day,
I follow thee enthralled. Oh thou
Art a beguiling companion, forever
Beckoning me on, on, and I will not think
Of tomorrow. Each day becomes a beloved day.
I know not yesterday, for today
Is here. I see not tomorrow, for today
Is here. Give me forgetfulness.
Let me not become enmeshed
In the fantasy of day as a child
At a mummer show, forgetting.

Oh beloved day, beloved day,
Let the puppets pause and the tapers snuff
And the tinselled curtain slip. Let my
Child eyes then descend their lids and let my
Dream retain the stuff which enthralled me.
Oh beloved day, beloved day, beloved day!
