The Holy Word spread upon the fields
And that each day unfolded
A new lesson before me.

The discussion soon continued now upon the attitude of science toward
God and the difference between Scientists and one who really had faith.
The two being represented in the conversation by Sir Oliver Lodge and
Mr. Hickson. Patience gave this:

-Science and Faith-

Ah, there be in learning; self. He who
learns, learns by application, and Learning
is a jealous mistress! She holdeth both
thy hands.

Faith is blind and goeth forth seeking,
palms up and, confronted, behold! doeth the
labor of mercy.

Wisdom is the staff within the hand of
Learning, but Learning be proud and would
lead Wisdom. What a strange, strange
consummation of the union, when out from the
love of Wisdom and Learning is born
Enlightenment!

This closed the evening's session.
