awful, an absolute dragon & never stops talking for a moment. I hear she is of the opinion & school of thought that the German nation should be eliminated after the war. Her intelligent doctrine is very much the sort of unhelpful nonsense you would infer from such a woman. Much as I loathe & detest the Germans, I think she & her kind are much more likely to be the ones to be helped out. Commander [ ?] Warburton called in several times & was in great form. He is now passing through another - completely harmless - affair with an English girl of about 20, his son, who flies a bomber, is now in the W.E. War - got a bar to his 2 F.C. Uncle, who is unshaven & stocky built & has a lovely hooked nose, & weather beaten face - had been to a fancy dress dance the week before - dressed as a Jewish girl from a kibutz - very short bright blue bloomers, a shawl, coloured wig, & a most [ ?] bosom. I was told he was a scream, but that the supper was rather [ ?]. The enclosed snaps taken early last summer show you what they look like. Sheilah, now 2 [1/2 ?] years is a very sweet child & I like her, but Lisa was so much sweeter at that age, & had altogether more character & was so much prettier, & so much more of a little person by herself.

Nina is frightfully sweet & kind, certainly more intelligent & interesting & sincere than most people are, but she really kills me sometimes, she says such odd things, & also such [bold statements ?] [ ? ?] [spoken ?] with such a wise & knowing look I sometimes feel I am supposed to grasp her hand & say "I, Nina, I do agree, I do" - but I can only provide a rather wan smile. [ ? ? ?] She is greatly thrilled because she has now a girl who was also trained at the Royal College [ ?] Were you trained at the Slade darling? She is pretty coy about how you & she & she will agree to differ if ever you meet - but admits that her career is now over. I gave her a rather good illustrated edition of Michaelangelo - I forgot to remember the publisher, but it was a big book with a grey cover. I'm afraid it will be wasted on her, but she was very pleased with it. I nearly bought her that fat edition of Van Gofh - but thought tat would be completely wasted, & in any case, it cost too much. She gave me a very [ ? ?] wood cigarette box - they make these out of things beautifully out here. I also enclose an old head scarf which I thought was too goofy to send you at the time. Perhaps, you gave given me confidence with those three yds

sent me darling! Though really, two of them are quite good, were it not for the cheap camera & being badly over exposed. The other one, I must admit, is pretty dotty, but it does not matter, sweetest, I know that you are gorgeous & pretty & lovely, dotty snaps only appear because you have a much more expressive face than other people & cannot always be caught in a position of serene beauty. I think, darling, that you & Maxie must have a really good photograph taken together. Not a 5/6 one at Madame Yvonne - but one costing several guineas. Will you please do this for me darling. I want you to. I am so sorry now that we had that cheap one taken - they are so flat & if I look at it from above or below it comes out of focus. Your mouth looks quite wrong & it does not show your eyes at all. You must please do it, darling. I have so much more to tell you & to answer, but I must stop this post, it was the morning as my short one went off last Tuesday. But I shall carry on tomorrow - & at greater leisure. On New Years Eve, we are having goose & plum pudding in the Mess. Please give a big kiss to Maxie from his daddy - & all my dearest love & kisses to you, my sweetest heart. XXX Harry
