FINCA VIGIA SAN FRANCISCO DE PAULA CUBA

June 13, 1942

My Dear Mrs. Hemingway:

Thank you so much for your note and for the sweet picture of
Carol and her husband and children. The little girl looks like a beauty.

I am so sorry to hear that you have neuritis in your right arm,
and do hope that, as you say, the summer heat will help you.

Patrick and Gregory are arriving tomorrow to spend the summer
here with us. Bumby is at Dartmouth where he will stay all summer. They
have a system now of not taking vacations and so completing their four
college years in three. He was down here for a week between terms and he
looks fine and is very grown up and self reliant and a wonderful boy, as
you know.

I must tell my brother of that lady who says he saved her life
when he was an interne. He will be very pleased. He is my youngest
brother (6' 2" and weighs about 220 lbs.) and he is the only doctor left.
My father and my grandfather and my mother's brothers and my father's brothers
were all doctors. So you see that Ernest and I have a good medical bond in
our background. My youngest brother now does research at Johns Hopkins. My
oldest brother is Assistant Naval Attache at Buenos Aires and my second
brother is Council for Leon Henderson's price administration in the Eastern
states. Normally he is a professor of law at Columbia University. My mother
is on the board of the National League of Women Voters and has worked at that
very hard for seventeen years and continues to do so. That's my family. It
is an awfully good family which I love very much though I rarely see them.
