information-about-overseas-service: Left from Little Creek Armed Guard School, Norfolk, Va., about 20th of March, 1941, and was assigned to armed guard crew of S.S. Heredis, leaving from New York about 1st of April, 1942. The ship war torpedoed in the Gulf of Mexico on May 19th, 1942, without warning, with the loss of five of the six man gun crew. The ship was headed from the Canal Zone to New Orleans, when she was attacked a 2:00 A.M.
