This Indenture made this 17th day of March
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred &
twenty five Between John B Valentine of the city of Richmond
of the one part and John G Williams of the said
city of the other part: Whereas the said John B Valentine
is desirous, in the first place, to secure Anthony R. Thornton
& Edmund Anderson from all loss & injury on account of
their endorsing a note drawn by him of two hundred & twenty
five dollars dated Feby 17th 1825 - payable & negotiable at the
Farmer's Bank of Virginia sixty days after date, which
note has been discounted at said Bank and also to
secure them in case of their endorsing any note or notes
in renewal of the said note - also to secure the said
Anthony R Thornton the payment of a note of fifty
Dollars dated Jany 1st 1825 drawn by the said Valentine
in favour of the said Thornton payable on demand -
also to secure a debt due from the said Valentine
to the said Edmund Anderson of sixty four Dollars
by open account, for Rent — secondly to secure to
James Boskin the payment of a note of one hundred &
twenty nine Dollars - which note is made negotiable
at the Farmer's Bank; also to secure to Christopher Tompkins
a note of fifty dollars executed by the said Valentine
to Henry Fore for Journeyman's wages, dated March 15th
1825, and by him assigned to said Tompkins — thirdly
to secure to Charles Hughes the payment of thirty Dollars
and to John Sawyers the payment of fifteen Dollars both
