Lord Dunmore further than he was constrained by his Lordship's establishing Martial Law and praying the protection of the Convention in behalf of the inhabitants of the said Bourough and that if any inquiry into the conduct should be thought necessary a Committee might be appointed for this purpose.

Ordered, that the said Petition be referred to Mr Holt Mr Newton Mr Meade Mr Murdaugh Mr Wills Mr Adams Mr Anderson Lewis Mr Meredith Mr Rooter and Mr Mercer they are to report the same together with this opinion to this Convention.

Ordered, that the said Archibald Campbell be confined to his room in the City of Williamsburg under a proper guard til the further orders of the Convention of Committee of Safety.

The Convention then according to the order of the Day proceeded by Ballot to the apppointment of the Committee of Safety and the Members having prepared Tickets with the names of eleven persons to be of the said Committe and put the same into the Ballot box Mr Watkins Mr Gray Mr Lyme and Mr Drew were appointed a Committee to examine
