Present: Dr. Geo. H. Long, Coroner I.R Dovel, Commonwealth's Atty Essie R. Housden, witness Audrey Housden, witness

Essie R. Housden, 31 years of age and living at Ingaham, Virginia, dirst being duly sworn states as follows

Q. You have three children, I believe? A: Yes, sir. Q. What are their names and ages? A. Audrey age 9, Emery age 7, and Dolen Junior Housden age 4 Q. Do these children live with you> A. Yes. Q. Where is your home located? A. One mile from Ingham. Q. Was there anyone else other than your three children making their home with you or living with you on December 6, 1944? A. Lindsey Breeden had been there four weeks this coming Saturday, December 9th Q. What relation is Lindsey Breeden to you? A. Second Cousin. Q. Had Lindsey Breeden been to your home any time prior to this visit this year> A. Yes, he comes often Q. Approximately how many times has he been there this year? A. About three times.

Q. What are the names of his mother and father? A. His father is Hubert Breeden and his mother is Annie Breeden Q. When did you first know your Cousin, Lindsey Breeden, had a 38 Revolver A. I knew nothing about it, although I heard him talking to Early Alger about selling one. Q. You surely knew he had a pistol there at the house, didn't you? A. No, I had not seen it but heard him talking about it. Q. Would you know the gun if you should see it? A. The way he talked about it I imagine I would.

The gun and holster was exhibited to the witness by I. R. Dovel, COmmonwealth's Attorney.

Q. Is this the gun? A. I never saw the gun, or looked right at it, but I saw the edfe of teh white handle after the gun was fired. Q. Have you seen that holster? A. Yes, I had seen the holster before as he brought it downstairs from his room upstairs to sew a few stitches where it had been ripped. Q. You had seen the box of bullets? A. Yes, I had seen the box of bullets, and Lindsey said he had 49 bullets in the box. Q. What did you say? A. I said, "Lindsey, if you have a gun to go with that, it is liable to get you into trouble." He said, "no, it won't get me into any kind of trouble." Q. How long have you known Dolen Good? A. It will be ten years the 23rd day of this month Q. Did Dolen Good come to your home in Ingham on the evening of the 6th of December?

A. Yes, sir. Q. What time did he arrive there? A. I could not tell exactly, it was around seven I would say. Q. Was Lindsey Breeden there when Dolen arrived? A. Yes, he was sitting at the end of the table we eat off of in the kitchen. Q. Which way did Dolen enter the house? A. He came in from the back kitchen door. Q. Were you in the kitchen when he came in? A. Yes. Q. Did anyone come with Dolen? A. No, if they did they never showed up Q. How long had it been prior to December 6th that Dolen had come to your home? A. Lindsey came on Saturday, November 18th, and the following Wednesday, November 22nd Dolen Good came. Dolen had no one with him at this time. Q. About what hour did he arrive on Wednesday of the 22nd? A. No. Two was going by my house, I would say about 10:25 that night. Q. Did he spend the night there that night? A. Yes, sir. Q. Who all spent the night there that night? A. Lindsey Breeden, Early Alger, Dolen Good, my children, and myself. When Dolen came into my room and sat down on my bed I got out. Uncle Earl come to me and said he was sick and was going to stay up and I said, "Uncle Earl, I will come out and sit with you for a while." Q. When Dolen Good came to your home on the evening of the--

-422nd of November, did you have any trouble with him? A. Well, he come in and he stood behind Earl Alger. Earl let him in and I stayed in bed. Earl come to me saying, "Dolen Good is out here and wants to see you." I said, "tell him I do not want to see him." When I said this he happened to be standing behind Earl Alger, and he said to me, "what in the Hell did you say?" I told him again that I did not want to see him. And he said, "what is that for?" I said, "you are drunk again, Dolen." When I said this he ripped out a great long oath and said, "that is nobody's business but mine." He come over and stood at the bed and said, "John what have I done to you?" (John being the name Dolen called me by all the time). I said, "you haven't particularly done anything, but you haven't done anything for the children, and you do not care for me or anybody, and I would rather for you not to come here any more. Then he dropped down on the side of the bed although I was in the bed wiht my two youngest children. He spent the night in my home, and when he went out the door with Uncle Earl he said, "call me at five o'clock." Q. Did you call him at five? A. I went to the door and called him and asked if he wanted to go. He said, "yes." I never called him any more until six. He got up then and come out in the kitchen and asked me for a cup of coffee. I poured him out a cup of coffee and asked him if he would have sugar or cream. Q. About what time did he leave? A. About 8:30 or 8:45 Q. Did you see Dolen Good from the time he left that morning until he came to your home on December 6th? A. No, sir, I did not. Q. When he was there on the night of the 22nd of November, did he have an argument or fuss with you, your Uncle or Lindsey?

A. No, he asked Lindsey how he felt, and lindsey said, "I am all right, how are you, Dolen?" Q. You stated that Dolen Good arrived at your house on December 6th at approximately 7:00 o'clock? A. It must have been about that time. Q. At the time he arrived at your home no one but you, your childern and Lindsey Breeden was there is that right? A. Yes, sir. Q. Which way did he enter your house on the eveningof the 6th? A. He come in the kitchen door. Q. where were you and Lindsey Breeden when he came in? A. I was out on the porch when I heard him coming. Q. And Lindsey was where? A. He was sitting at the end of the table next to the front room. Q. Where were the childern? A. In the front room playing. Q. Were you on the back porch when Dolen Good stepped up on the porch. A. No, I had gone in the Kitchen and was standing backed up against the kitchen stove. Q. What did he say when he came in? A. He said, "what in the Hell did you run for, were you afraid?" Q. Give us as near as you can a complete statement as to everything that occurred between you, Dolen Good and Lindsey Breeden. A. When he asked me if I was afraid of him, I said, "yes Dolen, you know I am always afraid of you when you are drinking."
