and mentioned how fortunate he had been in having teachers of understanding and emphasized how divine it is to be a born teacher and not a disciplinarian. The speaker referred to the magnificence and impressiveness of the American schools from the Atlantic to the Pacific but doubts if the children of to-day are any better educated than their parents and laid particular stress on the fact that children are individual persons and that they cannot be equally educated.

Tea was served in the Loring-Greenough House and Mrs. Harry H. *Hull, Miss Mary M. Perry, Mrs. Gillian H. Prescott and Mrs. George E. Seabury poured at the table decorated with pink sweet peas and tall lighted pink candles.

April 10, 1928

The President of the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club presided at the meeting held in the Unitarian Parish house April tenth. The minutes of the previous meeting as read by the recording secretary were approved. Notice was given of the supper April twenty-sixth, Mrs. Libby chairman of the Club play the afternoon and evening of the seventeenth of the tea the afternoon of April tenth Miss Gilbert in charge also of the tennis club now organizing. Mrs. Rees stated that the General Electric Company had invited the members of the Club to a refrigeration demonstration April twenty-seventh the Company expecting at least forty to attend. After the demonstration cards maybe played and refreshments will be served. To any club accepting the invitation Ten Dollars is given also if any of those present make a subsequent purchase Five Dollars is given to the Club. Those interested please notify Mrs. Rees. The Music and Drama Department was in charge of the afternoon, Miss Howard chairman, who had arranged a musicale. The artists were Mr. James R. Houghton, Baritone Mrs. M. H. Gulesian, Pianist. Mrs. Eleanor Leutz Diemer, Cellist. Mr. Reginald Boardman, Accompanist. who rendered an hour of delightful music. The chairman announced that Mrs. Gulesian had

contributed her talents to the Club for the afternoon and of interest to the members was the signing by Mr. Houghton of The Tom Cat composed by Mrs. Gulesian and published the week previous. Mrs. Carl L. Watson, director of the Sixth District, a guest of the Club, spoke briefly. A rising vote of thanks was given to Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Gulesian and the other artist.

April 17, 1928

The Tuesday Club Players, Mrs. Robert W. Myers, chairman, presented The Famous Mrs. Fair in Eliot Hall the afternoon and evening of April seventeenth. The performances were thoroughly enjoyed by those present and the Club may well be proud of the dramatic ability of those taking part. Mr. Francis Dunn favored the Club in the evening by playing several piano selections before and during the intermission of the play.

April 24, 1928.

The President of the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club presided at the Meeting held in the Unitarian Parish House April twenty-fourth.

The report of the recording secretary as read was approved.

Mrs. Walter E. Henderson stated that arrangements had been made for the Club luncheon to be held May fourteenth at the Weber Duck Inn. The price of the luncheon will be One Dollar and Forty Cents and the round trip by automobile One Dollar.

Miss Rose Dexter spoke briefly concerning the activities of the Traveler’s Aid Society, of their need of workers and money and made an appeal for friendship and sympathetic interest in the Society.

Under the auspices of the Home Economics Department, Miss Minnie A. Gilbert, Chairman, introduced Mr. Ralph W. Burnham whose subject was Hooked Rugs. In an informal and interesting talk, the speaker informed the members of the Club of the revival of the art of making hooked rugs which are a product of our ancestors. Judging from the rugs collectors, have found, the finest makers in the United States lives near Waldoboro, Maine although fine specimens have been secured in Essex County, Massachusetts and Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Mr. Burnham is a collector of hooked rugs and he exhibited many of his choice specimens which are of great artistic beauty. The speaker referred briefly to the collecting of antique furniture and in closing displayed a copy of the great seal of the United States. This reproduction is a work of art and consists of silk embroidery on silk and was made about eighteen hundred thirty. The speaker answered questions from the floor.

Executive Board May 4, 1928

The President of the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club presided at the Executive Board meeting held in the Loring-Greenough House May fourth with the following member of the board present Mrs. Gralill Mrs. East Miss Gilbert Mrs. Lane Mrs. Seabury Mrs. Coe Miss George Mrs. Henderson Mrs. Myers Mrs. Brues Mrs. Russell Mrs. Dillaby Mrs. Belden Mrs. Laird Mrs. Spears Mrs. Eldridge Miss Weld

The report of the recording secretary was read and accepted. It was voted that the three applications for membership in the Club read by the corresponding secretary be accepted and brought before the Club. It was voted that the application of Mrs. Joseph Dilworth for membership in the Club be accepted and brought before the Club. The treasurers report, read by Miss George, showed a balance May first of $531.76 with the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club Inc. and with the Loring Greenough House Fund a balance of $2995.04. Mrs. Rees stated that it has been the custom to have the entrance fees applied to the building fund and she suggested that this practice be continued.

Mrs. Henderson stated that Mrs. Grace Morison Poole had been secured for a series of five talks during the yera 1928-29. It was the sentiment of the board that Mrs. A. J. George be invited to speak during the year 1928-29 by some committee other than the Current Events. Mrs. Rees state that the electic refridgeration demonstration by the General Electric Company had been abandoned but that a later date could be arranged if the Club so desired. Mrs. Dillaby stated that the total amount raised by the dime calendars was Six Hundred Dollars. Mrs. Rees stated that Mrs. Hyde had resigned the office of Vice President of the Club which the board accepted with regret. On motion made by Mrs. Grabill, it was voted that Miss Howard be invted to fill the unexpired term of Mrs. Hyde. It was voted that the resignation of Mrs. Barbour from the Club be accepted with regret. It was voted that various sums totalling Three Hundred Twentyfive Dollars ($325.=) be donated to various organizations as follows:- Community Health Association~$100.= Family Welfare~~~100.= Jamaica Plain Neighborhood House~75.= Friendly Cooperation Ex-Service Men~30.= Children's Museum~~~10.= Traveller's Aid Society~~~10.=

Mrs. Rees suggested that in the future when making plaus for the distribution of the proceeds from various activities consideration should be given to the possible advisability of placing this matter of distribution in the hands of some committee. Mrs. Grabill stated that the committe on the revision of the by-laws and regulations reported progress [with their work] (strikethrough) and Mrs. Rees suggested that the committee be permitted to continue with their work. Mrs. Rees suggested the advisability of inviting Miss Cora Stanwood Cobb to speak before the Club during the year 1928-1929 also Miss Elizabeth Ross McElroy Mrs. Rees stated that it has been the custom of the Club to send flowers on the death of a member and that Mrs. Charles H. Souther had had charge of this matter. Mrs. Rees stated that members of the Club automatically became associate of out-of-town members when giving up their residence in Jamaica Plain. On returning to Jamaica Plain if in good standing, the pause could be reinstated. Adjournment followed.
