Special Meeting, Executive Board, May 11, 1917.
A special meeting of the Executive Board of the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club was held on May 11, 1917, at 51 Orchard St., with the President, Mrs. Rees, in the chair.
Those present were Mrs. Rees, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Souther, Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Kenyon, Mrs. Monteith, Mrs. Grabill, Miss Swain, Mrs. Pratt, Mrs. Safford, Mrs. Gardner, Mrs. Laird, Miss Knight, Miss Beaumont, Mrs. Morse, Mrs. Goodnow, Mrs. Chadwell.
The report of the secretary was read and accepted.
The report of the corresponding secretary was read and accepted.
The report of the treasurer was read and accepted.
It was VOTED that Mrs. Souther fill the unexpired term of Mrs. Perry as Vice-President.
VOTED that Mrs. Sears be invited to fill the vacancy caused by the promotion of Mrs. Souther.
VOTED to invite Mrs. Edric Eldridge to fill the vacancy of two years as directer caused by Mrs. Rees's change of office.
VOTED that Mrs. Adams as Honorary Vice-President be given all the privileges of an active member of the board of directors.
The Chair appointed the following chairmen of committees: Hospitality Mrs. Carter. Art Miss Beaumont Current Events Mrs. Monteith. History and Travel Mrs. Souther Literature Mrs. Grabill Children's Day Mrs. Coe xxxxxxxxxxxx Mrs. Laird Home Economics
Mrs. Rees suggested combining the Social Service and

Legislative Committees, thinking perhaps that the work ob both committees might be made more effective, and after discussion its was VOTED that these two committees be combined for the following year and Mrs. Brackett was appointed as chairman of this committee.
After some financial suggestions from Mrs. Goodnow, it was VOTED that the Year Book committee should increase the number of books for the coming year.
Mrs. Rees suggested that an entertainment be given next year by the club for the support of local charities, thus easing on our appropriations for that purpose.
VOTED that a Musical and Dramatic committee be formed, and Mrs. Kenyon, Mrs. Safford and Mrs. Carter were appointed as that committee.

Report of Annual Meeting, May 7, 1917 The regular annual meeting of the club was held on May 7 - with the President, Mrs. Thomas N. Carter in the chair. The Sec. report of the last meeeting was read and accepted. The reading of the Secretary's Annual report followed. It was voted that this be accepted and placed on record. The Treasurers report was read. The total am'ts were Credit $3143.98 Expenditures 1981.52 Bal. 1162.46. Reserve Fund. 983.94. Active " 178.52. It was voted to accept the report.

2 The Corresponding Secretary read her report stating - Letters & post cards sent. 589 Notices, tickets &c " 1614. This was accepted by vote. The Auditor's report was also given and accepted. Mrs. Kenyon presented the report of the nominating committee - as follows. For Pres. Mrs. Thomas G. Rees. " Vice Pres. " Sewall C. Brackett. " Recording Sec. " Orville R. Chadwell. " Cor. " Miss Jean M. Swain Treas. Mrs. Albert N. Goodnow. Auditor Miss Emily J. F. Knight. Directors for 3 years. Mrs. Thomas N. Carter Mrs. Ransom D. Pratt. Mrs. Stephen F. Gardner Mrs. M. Victor Safford.

3 The chair appointed tellers to collect the ballots Mrs. Bliss Mrs. Grabill Mrs. Coe Mrs. Laird The chair then presented the recommendation of the Executive Boad, that in recognition of her long and faithful service, Mrs. Chas. H. Adams be made honorary vice president. This was made a motion and carried by the club. Mrs Adams responding with a few sincere words of appreciation. After the statement that the expenditures of the club this year had left only a small amount for charity, the presend offered the recommendations of the board for the following appropriations J. P. Friendly Society $75 - District Nurse. $38 - Blind Babies Nursery. 10 Bowditch Agassiz House & School Assn. 5. Anne Hutchinson statue. 10. Total 138 -

4 It was moved & seconded to vote on the recommendations as a whole. It was so voted, and they were accepted. Notice was given of the Annual State Federation to meet at Great Barrington in June, also notice of the Fair to be held in Boston in the Fall for the Federation Endowment Fund. A request for volunteers to give 1 article apiece for a table at this fair, brought a gratifying response - apparently all the club rising to their feet. It was stated that there would be some money to the club for charity, the past proceeds of an entertainment given by Miss Souther. It was voted to leave the disposition of this to the discretion of the Board. The tellers reported 147 votes cast - electing the ballot. entire. A list of 10 candidates for

5 membership was voted in - to fill the vacancies caused by resignations to date. Mrs. Carter then said a few words of fare well with much feeling, and presented the gavel of office to Mrs. Thomas G. Rees, the newly elected President, whose brief address to the club struck a note of high purpose and resolve. Mrs. Rees then appointed the nominating committee for next year as follows. Mrs. Arthur P. Perry. Mrs. Ira C. Hersey. " Frank DeLand. " Albert N Robinson " Elmer H. Mure. " Robert T. Coe. Delightful music was interspersed with the business of the day, rendered by Mr. Louis Besserer violinist - accompanied on the piano by Mr. Ecker. Tea followed. Those who served were Miss Jean. M. Special Meeting, Executive Board, June 19, 1917.
[A special meeting of the] The Executive Board of the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club [was held] met on June 19, 1917, at 793 Centre St., with the President, Mrs. Rees, in the chair.
The members present were Mrs. Rees, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Souther, Mrs. Kenyon, Mrs. Grabill, Mrs. Laird, Mrs. Gardner, Miss Beaumont, Mrs. Monteith, Mrs. Morse, Mrs. Sears, Miss Knight, Mrs. Coe, Mrs. Brackett, Mrs. Goodnow, Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Pratt, Miss Swain, Mrs. Chadwell.
The minutes of the last meeting were read, followed by the report of the corresponding secretary, both reports being accepted.

The treasurer's report was read, showing the present membership to be 278, with a waiting list of 9, and was also approved.
It was VOTED that Mrs. Robinson be considered a member of the club, and that Miss Johnston be permitted to pass on her ticket for the period of her absence.
It was also VOTED that the matter of admitting members who have neglected to pay their dues be left to the discretion of the treasurer and president.
In discussing the matter of appropriations for the coming year Mrs. Rees made the suggestion that possibly two entertainments might be given, the proceeds of one to be divided among

the local charities and of the other to go to Red Cross work or whatever of that nature might seem best. She also suggested an experience meeting as one way of raising money for this purpose, and it was later VOTED that the club try the experiment of having an experience party sometime during the year.
It was also VOTED that the teas for the coming year be made very simple, confined to some kind of beverage and crackers, the cost not to exceed the appropriation of five dollars.
The reports from committees were next in order, and Mrs. Carter, for the Hospitality Committee brought up the matter of guest night, a discussion following as to whether it would be advisable to use dramatics as the entertainment for that night. A straw vote being taken showed nine members in favor of dramatics and four opposed.
The Art Committee, Miss Beaumont Chairman, reported the following members, Mrs. Sears (from The Board) Mrs. F. W. Bayley, Miss Mary Howard, Miss Lena B. Schoenfuss, [(a High School girl to be]
The Current Events Committee, Mrs. Monteith Chairman, [reported] had chosen the following menbers. Miss Bierstadt, Miss Blanchard, Mrs. Urry, Mrs. Rittenhouse.
The History and Travel Committee, Mrs. Souther Chairman, reported the following committee, Miss Emily J. F. Knight, Miss Fannie E. Coe, Mrs. Horace E. Dunkle, Mrs. James Keltie, [with the addition of the High School girl who might be chosen for this committee].
The Literature Committee, Chairman Mrs. Grabill, included the [following] members: Mrs. Eldridge, Mrs. Fairley, Mrs. Thomas

Nelson, Mrs. Oscar Gallagher.
The Committee on Home Economics, Mrs. Laird Chairman, and Mrs. Ransom D. Pratt, Mrs. Leslie K. Storrs, Miss Annie W. Seaverns, Mrs. John M. VanHeusen members, suggested ten minute talks along the lines of food conservation, etc. before some or all of the meetings of the coming year, and it was VOTED that the Executive Board heartily approves of the plan and that the committee work out that plan as far as possible.
Mrs. Brackett for the Social Service and Legislative Committee reported the following members, Mrs. S. F. Gardner, Mrs. Cornelius Russell, Mrs. Walter Henderson, Mrs. Elwin P. Archibald, Miss Elsie Buff.
Mrs. Kenyon, Chairman of the Musical and Dramatic Committee, asked to be allowed to add one extra member to her committee, and there being no objection it was VOTED that Mrs. Currier be allowed to serve. The other members were, Mrs. Safford, Mrs. Joel Barnes, Mrs. Walter Durfee, Mrs. Benjamin Foss.
Mrs. Kenyon suggested a patriotic musical entertainment entitled "The Growth of the Flag", and it was later VOTED that Mrs. Kenyon and Mrs. Safford be authorized to arrange for this entertainment at an early date.
The Committee on Children's Day, Mrs. Coe Chairman, [reported the] had chosen the following members [of its committee], Mrs. Henry S. Adams, Mrs. Henry W. Balderston, Mrs. F. W. Deland, Miss Marguerite Souther.
It was suggested that the different committees try to hold as closely as possible to their appropiations for the coming year.
