October 30, 1917.

The first meeting of the Current Events Department was held in the lower hall on October 30, and in spite of the unpleasant weather there was a good attendance. AFter the president had opened the meeting the secretary's report had been read, Miss Souther gave some notices in regard to the food conservation table for the Neighborhood House fair, and Mrs. William Wheeler President of the Women's Municipal League asked the assistance of members of the club in this effort now being made to stabilize the prices of essentials especially by use of the market reports being given out by the government. Mrs. Monteith, as Chairman for the afternoon, extended the greetings of the club to Mrs. May Alden Ward who at this time began her twentieth year of talks on current events to the Tuesday Club. In her review of the past few months, Mrs. Ward dwelt especially on the effect of war conditions in our own country, taking up in some detail the important legislation which ahs been enacted by the 65th Congress Adjournment followed.
