one lady, French rather
pretty with her a most
repulsive looking
Englishman; besides
this couple there was
a fat Frenchman & 2
dirty looking Italians,
I was bodkin, to add
to all this it poured
without ceasing, &
we did not stop to feed
till between 8 & 6.
at an inn in Savanne,
here I spoke to a
gentleman who was
travelling in the coupé with
his son, & who my [frd.]
of the banquet informed
me to be Prc. Poniatowski,
he knew me as he
asked about the
pictures at Staff. Hse
& said he knew N.
After a miserable
journey during the
latter part of which
the entire machine seemed
to threaten to come to
pieces we arr. at
our destination only
5 hours late; I went
to the H. d'Italie.
