LENOCHER'S HOMESTEAD.
The corn that surprises the grower. Our growers' contest to secure
the contracts for Lenocher's Homestead, as its great yield, large ears,
and the ease and rapidity with which it can be harvested render it a
favorite wherever it is known. Its only objection is the color, but if
you want corn to feed that will not matter. For those who desire a
first-class variety of red corn this is the one we recommend above all
others. It is one of the best varieties for feeding purposes, not being
hard enough to prevent stock from eating it easily and masticating it
thoroughly. It is well known in Iowa for having won the Iowa Homestead prize of $100, yielding 345 bushels on three acres with ordinary
culture. It was also awarded a diploma at the World's Fair. It originated with Mr. G. F. Lenocher, one of the most practical corn growers
and stock feeders in the state, and was named and introduced by the
Iowa Seed Company. Its color is a rich, dark red with occasional light
caps; grain deep and hackled; ear somewhat above the average with
small cob which dries out rapidly so that it is not apt to be caught by
frost. It is a safe corn to plant and often produces a good crop in unfavorable seasons when other corns will hardly make nubbins. It is
given as great care with us as our other sorts and our stock has been
carefully selected for seed purposes. Packet 5c, lb. 25c, 31b. 60c; by
frt. pk. 65c, bu. $2.00, 2 bu. or more at $1.85 10 bu. for $17.50.
Your Lenocher's Homestead Corn is out of sight. My neighbours bought all i
could spare for seed purposes, and I had hard work to keep seed enough
for my own use.- Farnk Degnan, Seneca County, Illinois.

REID'S YELLOW DENT.
THE STANDARD CORN IN THE MIDDLE WEST.
This variety is the best known among progressive farmers who grow for the great corn shows and who try to
breed to the show standard. The type of Reid's Dent is the
standard for corn judges and through its popularity at the
shows it has become widely known and generally distributed. It is a thoroughbred corn having many years of
selection for its foundation, and the type is thoroughly
fixed so that reversion seldom occurs, and the crop is always uniform in size, shape and color. Is the most highly
recommended by Professor Holden, the noted corn expert
of the Iowa Agricultural College, and is too well known to
require lengthy description, our illustration well showing
the general characteristics.
It requires about 115 days to mature and we do not there-
fore recommend it for planting north of Central Iowa. In
good years it will often produce splendid crops as far north
as the Minnesota line, but it cannot be depended on to ripen
in short seasons in that latitude. A splendid variety for the
farmer who sells corn in the ear.
This and Legal Tender are the only varieties we have
thought worthy to place beside the standard sorts of our
own introduction, but we recognize the merits of these two
corns and give them equal care in growing and selection
that we do those which we have ourselves produced. Our
stock is extra choice, having been grown from stock received direct from Rr. Reid , and we have selected the choicest ears so that we are sure our seed cannot fail to please
the most particular. It is of handsome yellow color, smooth,
deep grained, and the kernels are packed very closely on
the cob, thus giving it an appearance of great solidity. Pkt.

STAR LEAMING
The Leaming Corn, originated by Mr. Leaming, of Ohio, had the reputation of being the hardiest and surest growing yellow corn, but particular
growers objected to its red under-color and uneven kernels, due to its
rapid tapering. Our Star Leaming, so called to distinguish it from other
strains, has been carefully bred up through a long series of years to
overcome these objections and still retain all its desirable qualities. Ears
are large and handsome, with deep, large grains of rich, deep orange
color, on a medium to small cob. It grows to medium height, setting the
ears about 4 feet from the ground. husks easily, and the corn is snug on
the cob, thus making a very solid, heavy feeding ear. Surface is quite
smooth for dent corn. It is very productive, and it is the ideal variety
for selling in the ear. Pkt. 5c, lb. 25c, 3lbs. 60c, postpaid. By freight,
pk. 65c, bu. $2.00, 2 bu. or more at $1.85, 10 bu. or more at .$1.75 .
HICKORY KING.
A white field corn which has the largest grains with the smallest cob
of any white corn ever introduced. So large are grains and so small the
cob that on an ear broken in half a single grain will almost cover the
cob section completely. Of strong, vigorous growth and yields splendid
crops on light soil; a desirable variety where season is long enough to
mature it, but we do not recommend it north of Southern Iowa, although
it has produced a good crop forty miles north of Des Moines. Notice the
illustration and if your farm is not too far north try at least a small
field this year. This variety matures in about 135 days. Pkt. 5c, lb. 25c,
31bs. 60c, postpaid. By freight, pk. 75c, bu. $2.50, 2 bu or more at $2.35,
