[image] INTERNATIONAL MIXED.
PANSIES. Pansies are a specialty with us, and we use the greatest care in growing and importing the best strains of these universal favorites. Circular giving full directions for growing pansies will be sent free if requested. Packets contain 100 to 250 seeds. AMERICAN GIANT.--See description on colored plate page 75. Per pkt. 25c. IMPROVED MADAM PERRITT or Wine Shades.--When traveling in England we found this charming novelty growing on the grounds of a leading specialist, who had been selecting and hybridizing the finest large flowering sort, having the richest, most velvety wine shade in some part of the flower, but there were fully 75 distinct varieties in the collection. Said to be the most fragrant of all pansies. Pkt. 20c. NEW RAINBOW.--The best novelty in pansies and the most charming variety ever sent out. We have given it the name of New Rainbow, and consider it very appropriate owing to its beautiful irridescent [iridescent] colors. Packet of 150 seeds 25 cents. GIANT TRIMARDEAU.--Flowers of very large size, some have measured four inches in diameter. Each flower is marked with three large blotches or spots and stands well above the foliage. Choice mixed colors. Pkt. 10c. MASTERPIECE.--This superb new pansy is distinct from all others in the form of flowers, the border of every petal being conspicuously undulated and curled, giving the flowers the appearance of a double pansy. The flowers are extremely large. Pkt. 20c. FANCY STRIPED.--A beautiful variety from Belgium, with good sized flowers which are striped and mottled in various tints on contrasting ground colors. Pkt. 10c. FIRE KING.--Very distinct and striking. Upper petals are of bright red, of really a fiery shade, warranting the name of Fire King. Pkt. 10c. MAHOGANY.--A beautiful, rich mottled mahogany color. Pkt. 5c. SNOW QUEEN.--Flowers of a delicate, pure satiny white, handsome and attractive. Makes fine showing in beds or for cut flower work, and beautiful for cemetery use. Pkt. 5c. QUADRICOLOR or Pheasant's Eye.--Upper petals sky blue, edged with violet; lower petals spotted and marbled. Pkt. 5c. ENGLISH FACE.--A popular variety in England. Most of the flowers are distinctly marked with a "face." Mixed colors. Pkt. 10c. GOLDEN YELLOW.--Best of the yellow varieties. Desirable as a contrast. Pkt. 5c. KING OF BLACKS or Faust.--Flowers intensely dark, almost coal-black. Pkt. 5c. AZURE BLUE.--Very fine shade of sky blue. Pkt. 5c. LORD BEACONSFIELD.--Fine, large flowers of deep purple violet, shading off in the petals to a white hue. Pkt. 5c.
CASSIER'S GIANT ODIER.--Flowers of immense size, and are of the popular Odier type, being all three-spotted or five-spotted on backgrounds of very rich colors. The flowers of the Cassier's are of good substance and fine form, while the plants are of most compact growth. Pkt. 15c. MAMMOTH BUTTERFLY.--A strain of pansy of matchless forms, colors and markings with flowers half as large again as ordinary pansies. Pkt. 10c. VIOLET SCENTED.--This new type is a cross between the pansy and violet. Flowers are much larger than the violet, more like pansies, but with the delicious fragrance of the former; mixed colors. Pkt. 15c. PEACOCK.--This fine new variety has been named the Peacock because the upper petals of the flower resemble in color the peculiar shade seen only in feathers of the peacock, a beautiful ultra marine blue. Petals are edged with a thin white line, within which it is purplish crimson, passing into a rich central blotch of blue, shading to black. Pkt. 10c. PETUNIA.--Surely there is no garden complete without a bed of elegant petunias. They commence flowering early and continue a mass of bloom throughout the whole season, until killed by frost; easily cultivated, requiring rich soil and a sunny situation. PHLOX DRUMMONDI.--If we could have but one flower for our garden that one would be the Phlox. Its brilliant shades of color, ranging from clear white to brilliant scarlet, make an almost dazzling show; continually in bloom if cut freely. Fire Ball.--Brilliant, dazzling scarlet; very handsome dwarf, compact. Pkt. 5c. Grandiflora Alba.--Pure white, very large flowers, constantly in bloom. Pkt. 5c. Cuspidata or Star.--Petals run out like little spines, thus giving the flowers a beautiful effect. Many colors. Pkt. 10c. Double Pearl.--A grand variety, introduced by us in 1888. By constant selection we have improved it so that almost every plant produces handsome, double, pure white flowers. It is very pretty, and will prove a splendid acquisition for bouquet work. Grandiflora Mixed.--This special large flowering strain has been selected with great care for many years, until we now have an ideal flower of immense size and for beauty of color they are unsurpassed. The colors range from the purest white to nearly black, including all shades of pink, red, violet, crimson, purple, yellow, blue, scarlet and brown, striped and blended in an indescribable manner. PYRETHERUM.--Golden Feather.--Beautiful golden leaved foliage plants of special value for borders and ribbon beds. Pkt. 5c. Roseum.--It is from this that Persian Insect Powder is made. Flower large, yellow and rose colored. Pkt. 8c. PRIMROSE.--Chinese.--One of the most desirable plants for growing indoors, being in almost constant bloom all winter, and if transferred to the border, they will bloom nearly all summer. Though perennial, new plants flower more freely, and seed should be sown every year. Start under glass. Mixed colors. Pkt. 15c. Forbesi--Baby Primrose.--A wonderfullly [wonderfully] free blooming little plant, covered with a mass of small flowers, especially during the winter. Pkt. 10c. Obconica.--Everblooming Primrose.--A favorite on account of its great blooming qualities. Mixed colors. Pkt. 10c. PASSION FLOWER.--A most desirable climbing plant. Sow seed early and if well cared for and seasons are favorable, vines will send out magnificent blossoms the first year, of pink, blue and white, very large and showy. Vines begin blooming when only one or two feet high, followed by golden fruit about the size of a hen's egg. If left in the open ground in winter it must have some protection. Pkt. 10c. PLATYCODON.--(Wahlenbergia.)--A perennial plant blooming the first year from seed, which should be sown early in open ground. Flowers are of large size, 2½ to 3 inches in diameter, and of various shades of light blue, lavender and white. Pkt. 7c.

PORTULACA.--Grandiflora Single Mixed.--This old favorite is brightest in the hot, dry weather, when other flowers are drooping. They are of almost every conceivable shade of color. Large flowered. Pkt. 3c. Double Mixed.--Very handsome, double as a rose, contains colors and shadings unknown in the single. Our seed is extra choice and will produce sixty to seventy-five per cent of flowers as double as the most perfect rose. Pkt. 10c. RICINUS.--(Castor Oil Plant.)--Cambogiensis.--This beautiful plant grows to a height of 8 feet , and of most stately, majestic tropical appearance. Large palm-like leaves of darkest reddish maroon, covered with a bright bronzy lustre, while the main stalk and leaf stems are ebony black. Leaves have large red veins which add to the beauty. The fruit is fiery red. It is unexcelled as a decorative plant for lawn or garden. Seed will always be scarce and high. Pkt. of ten seeds 10c. Zanzibarensis.--Grows to a height of 12 to 14 feet, with leaves 2 to nearly 4 feet across. A handsome specimen plant for lawns. The different varieties included in our mixture have light and dark green leaves and some of coppery bronze, changing to dark green, with reddish ribs. Pkt. 5c. Sanguineus Tricolor.--Blood red stalk; foliage redish [reddish] bronze with scarlet seed pods. Very attractive. Pkt. 5c. All Varieties Mixed.--Pkt. 4c. RHODANTHE.--Maculata.--One of the finest and most beautiful of everlastings. The flowers are of various colors. [image] PERPETUAL WHITE STOCKS.
STOCKS.--Sometimes called Gilliflowers or Ten Week Stocks. These popular flowers are easily grown, and are so highly fragrant, of such great beauty, and have so many good qualities, that they deserve a place in every garden. Perpetual White--(Princess Alice or Cut and Come Again) Of strong growth, fine branching habit, and if sown early, will bloom from May until November. Flowers very large and pure white, and the more they are cut the better they like it. Deliciously fragrant. Pkt. 10c. Large Flowering Dwarf German.--The most popular flower with our German customers. Our mixture contains a great variety of colors. Pkt. 5c. SUNFLOWER.--Globe of Gold.--Dwarf, well-branched plant growing about 3 feet high and each of its numerous branches carrying a medium sized, densely double globe shaped flower of rich, deep, golden yellow color, being veritable globes of gold. The most densely double of any sunflower. They are easily grown from seed and produce handsome, symmetrical plants, effective on lawns or in the garden. Pkt. 7c. Excelsior Branching.--This new Sunflower caused great attention in Europe. Has a single flower about five inches across producing a pyramid of bloom. Pkt. 10c. SCHIZANTHUS--Fine Mixed.--(Butterfly Flower.)--This is one of our prettiest summer blooming plants. It is of the easiest culture, growing quickly from seed, of excellent bushy form, and loaded with a profusion of rich and various colored flowers. SWEET SULTAN.--Giant Flowering Mixed.--Very large, 3 to 4 inches across, and most deliciously fragrant--the color of the flowers are infinitely varied from glistening white through shades of red to royal purple. TORENIA.--Fournieri.--Beautiful free flowering, trailing plants, well suited for baskets, vases, and in moist situations out of doors. A handsome plant, but not hardy. Pkt. 10c. VERBENA.--The verbena is deservedly a universal favorite, unrivaled in the splendor of its dazzling brilliancy of flower. A constant bloomer and if grown from seed has a sweet fragrance. Start seed early in the house and it will bloom all summer. New Century Mammoth.--Of most beautiful colors, largest flowers and largest truss of any verbena, and it is a variety which will please everyone. When well grown every flower truss measures over nine inches in circumference, while the single florets are as large as a twenty-five-cent piece; more vigorous in growth than the ordinary verbena. VINCA.--Fine Mixed.--(Periwinkle.)--A very pretty, free-flowering perennial with shining green foliage and beautiful flowers. Pkt. 5c. VIOLA.--Odorata.--The well known sweet violet. All colors mixed. Seeds start very slowly. Pkt. 10c. WISTARIA.--One of the most popular hardy vines, climbing to a height of fifty feet or more. It is perennial and easily grown from seed. Of luxuriant and rapid growth, bearing in the spring immense panicles of purple flowers produced in great profusion. Pkt. 10c. WALLFLOWER.--Greatly prized for their exquisite fragrance. They grow in long, brilliant colored spikes of flowers. Plants removed to pots in autumn will produce an abundance of delightfully fragrant flowers of many choice colors. [image] WILD CUCUMBER.
WILD CUCUMBER.--A well known vine common in many sections, and the quickest climber known for covering verandas, old trees and houses, trellises, etc., never suffering from the heat, but retaining its fresh and lively green color; never infested with insects, very profuse in bloom. It reaches a height of 30 feet in one season. It is covered with clusters of white, sweet scented flowers, followed by an abundance of ornamental prickly seed pods. It will reproduce itself from self-sown seed every year. Pkt. 5c, oz. 20c. ZINNIA.--Strong growing, hardy and elegant plants, rivaling the dahlia in size and doubleness, while the colors are bright and varied, ranging from white to deep, purplish crimson. Splendid for hedges, beds and borders. Pigmy, or Lilliput.--This strain is the acme of beauty and perfection in zinnias. Plants small and of bushy growth, each one bearing scores of beautiful little blossoms of the most perfect shape and brilliant colors, from pure white to very dark orange purple, crimson and vermilion. CHINESE HORN NUTS.--A large and most singular appearing nut, resembling buffalo horns, which is known botanically as Trapa Nutans. It is a native of China, and is largely used as a food there and in some parts of southern Europe. It is a swamp plant and can be grown in a jar of water, but it is better to have some dirt at the bottom. The growth is quite interesting and rapid and they produce pink single flowers. Can be grown in an aquarium. They are always of poor vitality and are sold mainly as curiosities. These nuts have been sold at the World's Fair and elsewhere at 10c to 25c each. SPECIAL MIXTURE OF FLOWER SEEDS. Many persons derive pleasure from watching the growth of a varied bed of flowers, entirely out of the usual trim garden style, while others desire a much more extended collection than their means will permit. LOW GROWING ANNUALS.--This mixture contains seed of a great variety of low growing annuals, few of which exceed four to six inches in height, and which, sown in beds or borders, present the appearance of Turkish rugs, carpeting the ground in their wide range of colorings and forms. Pkt. 10c. FLOWERS FOR BOUQUETS.--This mixture embraces seeds of annuals producing flowers suitable for cutting and for bouquets, nearly all of them having long stems.
