SN Refers to laws and policies protecting people with disabilities from discrimination.

SN Use for material on physically handicapped people, whether disabled congenitally or by injury e.g. paraplegics, spastics, the deaf, the blind and the mute and whether gay or not.

SN Use for discussion of discrimination in relation to sexual orientation in areas protected by legislation or proposed legislation. This is a narrower term than PUBLIC ATTITUDES TO GAYS or HOMOPHOBIA, which include speech and thought as well as actions
1) USE HOMOPHOBIA for general discussions of anti-gay discrimination, beliefs and attitudes with appropriate geographic subdivisions.
2) USE VIOLENCE, ANTI-GAY or POLICE HARRASSMENT for material
on verbal or physical assault by members of the public or police.
3) Use specific headings beginning with the name of a specific social group or institution for anti-gay discrimination in that group.
4) The term "discrimination" is used without qualification in headings (e.g. D1SCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT) denoting specific forms of discrimination against gay people (i.e. "gay" is understood). Where a heading is required to refer to discrimination against other groups (e.g. women, Polynesians) the appropriate qualifier should be used .
