This person's (English) handwriting is very idiosyncratic in regard to style and spelling. It should be noted that the majority of this cookbook is written in German, with the words in German spelled correctly, as far as I can tell from my long ago high school German classes.

This person originally learned a German style of handwriting, which utilizes letter forms/configurations that appear to us today as archaic or awkward: consider the forms of "-g-" and "-a-" in the word "sugar" on this page. Especially, note the form of "-x-" which looks very much like an English "-sc-"; this results in the word "mix" appearing to us today as "misc." or "box" looking like "bosc". Small letter "-d-" has the appearance of "-ol-".

The author has commonly applied Germanic spelling conventions for English pronunciations. The long "-e-" sound in English may be written as "-ie-" by the author. The long "-i-" of English may be written as the German "-ei-". Thus, this page is titled "Sienic Ester Eggs" which today we would write as "Scenic Easter Eggs."
