Mary Ruth Slaton diary, 1931 - 1935

[FEBRUARY 3] [19]31 Went to school today nothing happened unusual. I've decided I would read the new Testament through. I have read 4 chapter's tonight. [19]32 Went to school today, I got a letter from Cosby & also one from B. F Osburn. Mrs Vinson & Liliah came a while tonight. I didn't read the testament through as I thought I would but I have read some in the Bible most every day. [19]33 I cleaned up the house this morning. Sis and I patched some this afternoon. [19]34 I am a little better today I helped Sis do the general house work. Rex & I played Rook tonight. [19]35 Rex & I spent the day with Mother & Dad. Mrs. Polley, Blanche, Everett, Mr. & Mrs. Johnson, and Herbert spent the day also. Rex & I went to see Uncle Brock a little while this afternoon. A Sisk boy, Buck, Basil, Leona, Earl and Elizabeth came tonight and we all played Rook & had a real good time.

[FEBRUARY 4] [19]31 Went to school today, studied for a Shorthand test tonight. I read two chapter's in the Bible tonight. [19]32 I was sick today & didn't go to school. This is the first day I have missed this cemester. I wrote a letter to B. F. Osburn today. [19]33 Rex and I spent the day with Jess. We went to Mother's this afternoon and spent the night with her. [19]34 I got dinner today & helped Sis clean up the house. John Marion & Joseph came this afternoon. Joseph Rex, John Marion & I played Rook. John Marion & I won 3 games. Rex & Joseph won one. Mr. Slaton went to Jessie's this afternoon & is going to spend the night. [19]35 Kate washed for us today. I churned, got dinner and cleaned up the house today. I have been nearly sick today.

[FEBRUARY 5] [19]31 Went to school today. Went over to see Cleda Gatlin this afternoon and she helped me with my Geometry lesson. [19]32 Went to school today. Came home this afternoon. I am a good deal better today. [19]33 Rex and I spent the day with Mother and Dad. We came home late this afternoon. [19]34 Kate washed for us today. I patched some this morning and ironed some this afternoon. [19]35 I cleaned up the house, got dinner and ironed today. Sis ironed some after she came home from school.

[FEBRUARY 6] [19]31 Went to school today. Uncle Brock came after me & I came home. Mother & myself played Rook tonight. [19]32 I wrote a report on George Washingtom today. Mother, Dad & Uncle Brock & I went to see Mr & Mrs Conley a little while tonight. they moved today. [19]33 Sis & I did some mending today. Rex and I got a wedding congratulations card from Nora Lee today. I mailed Mother a letter today. Uncle Brock is 76 years old today. [19]34 I ironed, cleaned up the house, got dinner and read some today. [19]35 I cleaned up the house, got dinner and washed my head today. Buck James ate dinner with us. I patched some today also. Uncle Brock is 78 years old today.

FEBRUARY 7 [19]31 Stayed at home all day and worked on my English note book Got a letter from Cosby today. [19]32 Stayed at home all day. Cosby came this afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Conley and Raymond came a while tonight. [19]33 It rained most all day and snowed late this afternoon & tonight. I mailed a letter to Alline Slaton. today. Rex & I played checkers tonight. [19]34 Lin and Jess came this morning and spent the day with us. [19]35 I got dinner, cleaned up the house and churned today.

FEBRUARY 8 [19]31 Stayed at home all day & studied my lesson's. It has rained all day. I read 6 chapter's in the Bible tonight. [19]32 Came to town this morning and went to school. I made 92 on an English test today and made 88 in Business English today. [19]33 It has snowed today and is awful cold. Sis & I worked on her Double Wedding Ring quilt some this afternoon. [19]34 I cleaned up the house, got dinner, washed a few pieces. Mr. Slaton & I cleaned the hog heads & feet. I wrote a card to Uncle Brock tonight. [19]35 I got dinner, cleaned up the house, patched some, wrote a letter to Mother. I read some short stories and continued stories today, and got supper tonight also. Rex went to town with a load of tobacco today.

FEBRUARY 9

[19]31 Came to town this morning & went to school. Went to town this afternoon and had my hair cut. Wrote a letter to Cosby today. [19]32 Didn't go to school today. I had an x - ray picture made of a wisdom tooth this morning, and had it pulled this afternoon. [19]33 Sis and I washed a few pieces this morning, We worked on her Double Wedding Ring quilt this afternoon. Basil Slaton came tonight. Basil, Sis, Dock & I played Rook tonight. [19]34 I cleaned up the house, ironed some and got dinner today. I wrote a letter to Mother today. Rex and Dock went to town a little while this morning. [19]35 I got breakfast this morning & helped clean up the house & Sis got dinner. Neveline Tapp & her husband came a little while this morning. I have read a good deal today. Dock & Sis went to town tonight. Rex, a Sisk boy, Basil & I played Rook tonight.

FEBRUARY 10 [19]31 Went to school as usual. Studied on Geometry & Economic Geography tonight. Read 2 chapter's in the Bible tonight. [19]32 Went to school today. I am a good deal better today. I made B on a test in Physics. Ernest & I went over to Mrs. Mitchell's a while tonight. [19]33 I ironed a few pieces and did some pressing this morning, Sis and I worked on her quilt some this afternoon. It is snowing tonight. Rex and I played checkers tonight. [19]34 I got breakfast this morning and helped Sis clean up the house. Mr. & Mrs. Walter Merrill and Dixie came a little while tonight. [19]35 Rex & I spent the day with aunt Jessie and Mary. Stella & Fletch wasn't at home. They went to Stella's Mother's. Ruby spent the day with Sis and Sis took Ruby down to anton this afternoon to practice on the play that the Missionary Society is going to [?]

FEBRUARY 11 [19]31 Went to school today, Ernest and myself went to the show this afternoon. Studied on my lesson's tonight. [19]32 Didn't go to school today. Ernest & I went to prayer meeting at the mission tonight. Ernest lead the prayer meeting. [19]33 Rex and I got a wedding congratulations card from Alline Slaton today. Elizabeth and Earl Slaton came a while tonight. [19]34 John Marion, Joe and Buck James came this afternoon. Dock, Joe, Rex & I played Rook. Rex and I played Rook with John Marion & Buck also. Rex & I played 7 games in all and didn't loose but one game. I read some this afternoon also. [19]35 I cleaned up the house & got dinner this morning. Leona, Elizabeth & I went to Mrs. Merrill's this afternoon & helped make 2 gowns for the Missionary Society's linen chest.

FEBRUARY 12 [19]31 Went to school today & had 4 tests. Made 80 on a shorthand test. Christia Lee made 60, most everyone made a bad grade. [19]32 Went to school todsy, and came home this afternoon. Mr. Mrs. Conley and Raymond came a little while tonight. [19]33 Rex and I played checkers a little while this morning. I read some this afternoon. Mr. Tom James came this afternoon. Jim Slaton came also. June & Basil Slaton came tonight. June, Sis, Basil, Reck & I played Rook tonight. [19]34 Dock and I washed this morning and I got dinner. I have read a good deal this afternoon. [19]35 Kate washed for us today. I got dinner cleaned up the house & churned. I read some today also & wrote a letter to Mother. I got a letter from Mother today. Earl came a little while tonight.
