Endorsement of Dave Harris for Mayor of New Brunswick, 29 May 1970

I endorse Dave Harris for the nomination of Mayor of New Brunswick in the June 2 primary. He represents new politics so desparately needed in local government.

Our city's demands sensitive an responsive leaders who truly understand the aspirations of all our citizens. Dave Harris is that kind of leader. His activities as president of both the New Brunswick Urban League and the Middlesex County New Democratic Coalition demonstrate his concern for the poor, as well as his commitment to meaningful political reform. Dave Harris has shown many times that he is not afraid to challenge established political organizations in support of citizens who are alienated from the political processes.

Every year we in America witness the continuing decline of our urban areas under political officials who are unwilling and unable to reverse the tide. The situation requires immediate action.

I support Dave Harris in the Democratic primary because his goals represent those of millions of Americans. We need his energy and ability in the days ahead.
