Rep. H. Julian Bond

316 Lee Street

Atlanta, Ga.

Dear Sir:

Perhaps, you recall the time when you came to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to help our community raise funds for SNCC a few years ago. I also arranged for you to speak with the students at Franklin and Marshall College, my name is Miriam Mary Wallace. I also arranged all the newspaper publicity on your visit to Mr. Robert Pfannabecker's home and the reception planned for you. Does that jog your memory. Doubtless, you have made many speeches in many citites, but I was only recalling those details to you, by way of re-introducing myself to you. From the above address, you can see, I have moved, to the south.

A few days, ago the ADA of Baltimore requested of me that I contact you concerning a speaking engagement at a time convenient to you, either in the month of February, March or (April of 1969.)(can't do it) I had hoped to speak to you about this matter, in Philadelphia, Pa. at the Conference on Violence, but unfortunately, I could not attend.

The ADA holds a dinner annually to which about 200 to 250 persons come. The audience is composed of members of the ADA, NAACP, ACLU, and other civil rights groups. This year of course, we expect to have many followers of Eugene McCarthy. I am sure, that if you come to speak, many more would come.

Kindly write and tell me whether you w uld consider coming and what your fee would be for the engagement. From the newspapers, I can see how busy you are and how you have to hop from one area like Bedford-Stuyvesant-Brownsville, (my old neighborhood) to Philadelphia, but please tell us as quickly as possible what the chances are.

The best of luck always and the best of health too. We need you and the children of this world will need you even more.

Sincerely yours,

(signed) Miriam Mary Wallace
