Dear Mr. Bond,

I am a ninth grader at the Riverdale Country School in New York. The Middle School Student Council (grades 7-9) is trying to find speakers on various subjects. As an active McCarthy supporter I admired your efforts at the convention, and when I found out that you were going to be here for the rally on October 28/ I decided to see if you would have time to come. I would be extremely grateful if you could.

We had been thinking of asking speakers to come on a Friday at 1:00 and speaking to the Middle School, but you would probably prefer to speak to the entire school. The only time that is possible is on a Monday or a Thursday at 8:30, and there is no school on the 28th. The drawback to that is (beside the early hour) that you would have to limit your speech to about 15 minutes.

I don't know what kind of fees you usually charge but we can't pay any at all. If you do decide to come would you please let me know when and on what subject you would like to speak.

Thank you very much, James D. Gleick
