The Honorable Julian Bond

Georgia State Legislature

Atlanta, Georgia

Dear Mr. Bond,

As a white, middle-class, high school senior, I would like to thank you for your actions at the recent Democratic National Convention. I feel that the only thing that saved the entire convention from being a total disaster was the seating of your delegation on the floor.

Along with most other youths of this country, I am terribly disillusioned with the candidates for president. In my school, a "mock election" is to be conducted with the students engineering all the proceedings. Since I could not conscientiously support any of the three major contenders but still wish to voice my opinions, I plan to organize a massive write-in campaign. My candidate for president will be Senator Eugene McCarthy, and my candidate for Vice President will be Julian Bond.

Although many will oppose my decision and label it "unrealistic", I don't agree. They are the ones being unrealistic if they believe it truthfully matters who they vote for. I am offering my ticket as a symbol that things are not as they should be; they could be better.

In order for me to present my choices to the school, I need some information about your past: education, previos jobs, etc. If it is at all possible, could you please send me a small (resume?)│(bio) I thank you very much for any help you can give me.

I want you to know that I did not choose you offhandedly. I chose you because, after watching you in Chicago, I firmly believe you will someday be president of the U.S., if we can hold out until you become old enough.

Thank you very much for any aid you can give me. It is very important.

Respectfully,

(signed) Nora Nugent
