The Honorable Horace J. Bond, Member of the House of Representatives State of Georgia c/o Voter Education Project Southern Regional Council 5 Forsyth Street NW Atlanta, Georgia 30303

Dear Julian:

This organization, of which I am the incumbent President, plans to hold its Annual Meeting on or about June 9, 1968.

Each year, we try to invite as our principal speaker, some outstanding member of the race to talk to the membership.

The people of this area hold you in the highest esteem and I must add that I, too, was very much impressed with your messages that I was priveledged to hear at the Seminar for Elected Louisiana Negro Officials, recently held in New Orleans, in which we both participated.

We would be most pleased and highly honored if you will accept our invitation to be our principal speaker at our Annual Meeting, to be held on or about Sunday, June 9, 1968 her in Plaquemine.

I have asked Weldon Rougeau to explain our situation and what we have tried to do here over the years.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you will appear for us.

Very truly yours,

[signed]

William H. Samuel, Jr. President

Dear .....:

Please forgive my taking so long to answer your kind letter.

I would be happy to accept if my lateness has not caused you to select another speaker.

I would require round trip air transportation in advance and a fee of $100.00. Is the program an evening one? If so, I wonder whether it would be possible for me to return to New Orleans that evening, since the project I am now undertaking requires me to conduct some interviews there and I might be able to arrange some interviews in New Orleans on that Monday morning.

In that regard, if you do plan an evening meeting, I would like to be able to plan my travel so I could arrive in Baton Rouge that afternoon and immediately after your affair return to Baton Rouge and get a flight back to New Orleans. I realize this sounds complicated, but I thought I might try to kill two birds with one stone. If it isn't possible, then I can make other arrangements.

To speed things up, could you reply to me at:

Voter Education Project Southern Regional Council 5 Forsyth Street Atlanta, Georgia

Sincerely,
