State of North Carolina Mecklenburg County.

Whereas William H. Roach did on the 15th day of March 1892 receive Letters Patent No. 471,080 from the United States of America for a ROCKING ATTACHMENT FOR CHAIRS,

And whereas the said William H. Roach did sell, assign and convey his entire right, title and interest in said patent to Edwin D. Steele, Charlie J. Johnson, and Jehew N. Crouch,

And whereas Jehew N. Crouch did sell, assign and convey his entire right, title and interest in said patent to Edwin D. Steele.

And whereas Charles J. Johnston did sell, assign and convey to Edwin. H. C. Field an undivided onethird interest in said patent.

And whereas Edwin D. Steele did sell, assign and convey an undivided one sixth interest in said patent, (said STEELE & FIELD now owning said patent jointly)

And whereas A H Welch & A. F. Torrence of the County of Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina is desirous of acquiring an interest therein.

Now this indenture Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of Forty dollars to them in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, the said EDWIN D. STEELE AND EDWIN. H. C. FIELD has assigned, sold and set over unto the said Welch & Torrence the right to manufacture, sell and use said Rocking Attachment for Chairs in the following territory to-wit: Mecklenburg County in the State of N.C. and in no other places. The same to be held and enjoyed by the said Welch & Torrence for their own use and behoof and for the use and behoof of their legal representatives, to the full end of the term of seventeen years from date issue for which said Letters Patents were granted. The same to be held and enjoyed by the said Welch & Torrence as fully and entirely as it would have been enjoyed by the said EDWIN D. STEELE AND EDWIN H. C. FIELD had this assignment and sale not have been made.

P.S. For the convenience of purchases of territory we propose to keep a stock of Rocking Attachments on hand which we will furnish at two dollars per dozen, delivered to Express office or Railroad depot at High Point, N.C., as may be directed. Cash to accompany all orders.
