October 12, 1939

On October 12, 1939 the Elm Street Parent Teacher Association held its first regular meeting of the fall season in the school auditorium. The president, Mrs. Edgar Hartley, presided. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report, showing a balance of $6.27, was read and accepted. The new officers and committee chairmen were introduced to the association. They are as follows: President - Mrs. Edgar Hartley Vice Pres. - Mrs. George Hutchens Secretary - Mrs. Fant Kelly Treasurer - Miss Mary Clegg Finance Chairman - Mrs. R. H. Secrest Magazine Chairman - Mrs. Murray White

of Our Fathers." "Getting Along with People" was the theme of Miss Andrews's devotional talk which was based on I Corinthians 13. Then Miss Andrews introduced Mr. Lloyd L. Thayer, principal of Elm Street School, who spoke briefly on the qualities of a good teacher. He said a good teacher must be (1) a good citizen, (2) a friend, (3) a builder, (4) a pioneer, (5) a reformer, and (6) a believer.

At the conclusion of the program parents were invited to visit the rooms. The attendance award went to Miss Juanita Hayworth's fifth grade.

November 7, 1939

On November 7, 1939 the Elm Street School Parent Teacher Association held its regular monthly meeting in the school auditorium. In the absence of both president and vice president, Miss Margaret Andrews presided. The minutes were read and approved. The treasurer's report, showing a balance of $72.97, was read and accepted. Mrs. Hodgin made a membership report for Mrs. Edwards.

During the worship part of the program, the audience sang "America, the Beautiful"; Mr. Padgett, accompanied by Mrs. Padgett, sang, "In the Garden of My Heart; and Miss Andrews led in prayer.
