Addenda - January 15, 1935.

The January meeting of the Elm Street Parent-Teacher Association was held jointly, with the associations of other schools in the city, in the Junior High School auditorium on Jan. 15. The feature of the meeting was an address by Clyde A. Erwin, Supt. of Public Instruction of North Carolina. Mr. Erwin pointed out the fact that a 22 million dollar appropriation is needed for maintenance of the schools of N. C.

the meeting, the object of which was to discuss the project of feeding our needy children. The motion to continue the 7 c [cent] lunch for each child was made and carried. Mrs. Coffield reported that certain patrons of our school had adopted some of our needy children to see that they are provided with hot lunches at school.

Conditions of certain cases were reported by Mrs. Schroder. Mr. Bencini was appointed to work out a method of systematic collection of funds for free lunches.

On February 12, 1935, a meeting of the Elm Street P. T. A. was held in the school auditorium. The meeting opened with a program of songs given by Mrs. Schroder's 5th grade.

Mrs. Robert Cottam gave a report on Supt. Clyde Erwin's address given at the January joint meeting which was held at the Junior High School. She also read a letter from Mrs. Cely asking that our association stand back of Mr. Erwin's program for the maintenance of the schools, and stated that she had received a letter from Mrs. Aycock containing the same sentiment.

Mrs. Clark, Mrs. Frazier and Mrs. Ingram, who formerly were presidents of the Elm St. P. T. A., and spoke briefly of Founder's Day.

Mrs. Schroder, acting program Chairman, introduced Mrs. Fred Ingram, who told interestingly of the work and purposes of the founders of the Parent-Teacher Associations. She also told of the organization of the Elm St. Association.

Mr. Holt McPherson, editor of the Enterprise, was then introduced by Mrs. Schroder. Mr. McPherson spoke of Public Education in N. C. as the problem we face today. He told of his visit to the Legislature and of the friends of education he found there.

A letter from Representative Pickens in regard to the school appropriation was read by Mrs. Coffield. She told also of her contact with other representatives.
