Sat 3/9 Cold wind. Good & slow about leaving9 oclock. Stopped in Hawthorne but Bess not down. Saw Nannie & she took cards & letter to mail. At Yulee tried but couldn't get Ruth by phone. Lost in Brunswick & took dirt road across #25-341 to #17 near Darien. Blue Top Motel near Savannah by-pass not new but clean & cheap - $3! Heat on so high it almost made me sick. Took Bisodol & felt better.

Sun 3/10. Bypassed Savannah - better marked. To Edisto Beach where I found nothing but scads of tiny double clams at high tide mark. Coffee milkshake at H. J.'s near Charleston. Myrtle & on beach at 2nd Ave - nothing. To Helen Dees', not home. To Armbrusts where I spent night. Helen over for supper by fire & TV. To bed late.
