August 11th 1931

edition of "Garden Gossip" will be the speaker. Mrs White urged our club to avail themselves of this rare opportunity and attend these classes.

Mrs J D Cox moved that Mrs Rufus King be asked to resume her place in the Club, all members present uncerimonously agreed & the Pres directed the Sec to write to Mrs King to that effect.

Mrs S H Tomkinson stated that Dr. Wells is hard at work on the book "North Carolina Flora" and she requested orders for same. She gave a most interesting list of the subjects to be included in the book which in the opinion of all will be a truly great work. She also gave a list of Out of State people who have requested copies Twenty six copies were ordered by the Club with the prospect of several more

September Eighth 1931

The High Point Garden Club met on Tuesday September eighth at ten oclcok A M in the home of Mrs C F Tomlinson. The President Mrs White was in the chair

The meeting opened with the Roll Call by the Secretary. It was noted there were only two members absent.

The minutes of the August Call Meeting were then read and approved with one correction.

The President again called the attention of members to the coming School for Judges on September 29th and urged all to attend if possible.

Mrs Caldwell the retiring Treasurer reported a balance of $85 00.

The President called for unfinished business in response to which Mrs S H Tomlinson asked for further orders for the book North Carolina Flora. She announced that all but one member of the Club have subscribed.

September 8th 1931

phlox. The directions were simple and all seemed most interested. Mrs Elwood Cox stated that she had tested the method and that it was most satisfactory.

The program chairman Mrs W C Idol announced that the Year Books were not quite ready but would be distributed in a few days. She presented Miss Effie Cox as the leader for the morning.

Miss Cox called attention to a charming bowl arrangement of Phlox Drummundae to illustrate what can be done with Phlox.

The subject of her paper was "Spring Gardens" and she convinced her hearers that the next ninety days are the most important time of all the twelve months to the gardener.

She read a charming article from the "American Homes" by Romaine Ware entitled "Keeping Faith by Fall Planting which was greatly appreciated.

Miss Cox gave many valuable suggestions and directions and called especial attention of the Club to the fact that the State

September 8th 1931

Meeting will convene in High Point next Spring. She pointed out that now was the time for the gardener to prepare to have our City looking beautiful at that time.

Many of Miss Cox's suggestions were supplemented by Mrs J E Cox who offered to order for any members who desired it a lilac catalogue.

After her paper Miss Cox distributed typwritten suggestions to remind the Club Members of their duty to their gardens.

The Club was most grateful for both the instructive paper and the valuable reminders.

Then followed an informal discussion in which the more experienced gardeners gave advice to those less versed in garden lore.

A rising vote of thanks was given Miss Cox for her timely paper, after which the meeting was declared adjourned by the President.

October 13th 1931

The High Point Garden Club met at ten oclock A M on Tuesday October thirteenth in the home of Mrs G H Kearns with the Pres. Mrs White in the chair.

The meeting opened with the reading of the minutes of the last meeting by the secretary. There were approved. The sec. then called the roll to which 24 members responded.

The Treasurer reported a balance on hand of $99.06.

The President asked the corresponding secretary to write a letter of thanks to the Good Will Garden Club for the delightful lecture by Mrs Walker. She also requested that a letter of sympathy be written to Mrs S L Alderman

The meeting was then turned over to Mrs Hiram Armentrout who read a most imstructive paper on "Boxwoods & Native Evergreens". She cited the boxwoods as shrubs loved & cherished by our Ancestors and gave practical advice regarding their care & culture. After Mrs Armentrout had finished her paper
